Team Toyota Flyers Spotlight: Controlled Aggression
Two games ago, Tocchet made a strategic adjustment to the long-suffering Flyers power play. He moved the left-handed shooting Trevor Zegras from the right hall boards to the left. Being able to skate “downhill” with the puck with his stick angled on his natural side has opened up Zegras’ effectiveness on the power play at least so far.
Meanwhile, Matvei Michkov has the right flank to himself and the ability to roam the offensive zone.
It’s not a cure-all but the power play adjustment has helped so far.

Behind Enemy Lines: Ducks in a funk
Anaheim is very hungry for a victory. They are playing their fourth game within six nights. It’s the final game of their four-game road trip. The trip has been rough so far: 5-2 loss to the Rangers (Monday), 3-2 loss to the Islanders (Tuesday), and 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Devils (Thursday). Overall, Anaheim has lost five games in a row; all in regulation.

60th Anniversary: Today in Flyers History

Signed by the Flyers as a free agent in the summer of 1998, veteran goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck spent two seasons with the club. On October 24, 1999, the former Florida Panthers netminder blanked his old team on 22 shots in a 2-0 home win at the First Union Center. Fellow ex-Panther Jody Hull scored the game-winner and Eric Lindros added an empty net goal.
The shutout was the third in a row for “Beezer.” Over the course of the game, Vanbiesbrouck sets a franchise record for consecutive shutout minutes. His streak would eventually reach 227:40 before it was finally snapped.
Vanbiesbrouck’s franchise record would stand until March 12, 2012. Ilya Bryzgalov shattered the mark with a 249:43 shutout minute streak.
