Flyers Olympic Update: QFs Set

There were no upsets in the medal round qualifying games at the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. However, there were no outright blowouts in Monday’s matches.Germany defeated France, 5-1. Former Flyers forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare tallied the lone goal for France. Switzerland dominated Italy early and went on to win a 3-1 decision.Czechia survived a scare from Denmark and held on for a 3-2 victory. Meanwhile, Sweden downed Latvia, 5-1.

The quarterfinal games are now set:

  • Canada vs. Czechia: 11:40 a.m. EST. ravis Sanheim practiced on Canada’s fourth defensive pairing on Tuesday. Assuming Canada dresses seven defenseman, Sanheim could dress for the game. However, Josh Morrissey’s injury return likely knocks Sanheim out of the top six in the blueline rotation. Dan Vladar served as Czechia’s back goalie on Tuesday. Vladar has started one game and backed up Lukas Dostal in the other three. Karel Vejmelka has been scratched throughout the tournament to date.
  • Finland vs. Switzerland: 1:10 p.m. EST. Through the preliminary round, Rasmus Ristolain (2a) leads all players in the tournament with a plus-eight rating.
  • Slovakia vs. Germany: 7:10 a.m. EST.
  • USA vs. Sweden: 3:10 p.m. EST.
