I wasn’t so sure about the idea of basically having three third lines out there, which is a direct result of not having a bona fide 2nd line centre to round out the top six, and after watching that game… I’m still not entirely convinced.
while I don’t necessarily disagree with you, what different approach would you have? I guess they’ll manage to figure out which guys have the best potential chemistry playing with Demidov as the season goes, and that line will de facto become the official 2nd line…

it’s not that Bolduc Kapanen Demidov are not fun to watch, they’re talented, but they’re rookies. normally on a good team that’s your 3rd line, like NYR a few years ago with Lafrenière and the 2 others I don’t remember.
find a center, play him with Laine and Dach, that’s your 2nd line.
then the kid line, then Anderson Evans Gally. not perfect, but the best they could do in the short term with minimum moves.
we’ll see what next summer brings.also

I honestly don’t know what I would do. I think the idea of a balanced lineup works but some of these lines will also need an identity at some point. Last season Anderson-Dvorak-Gallagher was a very effective line that you would give defensive zone starts to (because Dvorak would win the faceoff) and their job was to get the puck deep and cycle it until they might get a scoring chance. That’s an identity.
Currently, the Suzuki line is a scoring (pretty dominating too) line.
The Demidov-Kapanen-Newhook line’s identity is speed and so far, it seems to work. Even if Demidov obviously needs to learn the defensive system as he tends to leave a guy completely open.
I don’t dislike the Bolduc-Dach-Gallagher line, even if they do seem a bit lost defensively… seems like Bolduc is carrying it more than anything at this point and I’m not sure they have an identity yet.

It might be hard but I hope we can find a way to keep Matheson around…. Think he’d accept the same deal Edmonton gave Walman? 7×7? Term wouldn’t be great as it would bring him to 38 years old but I feel that’s what he’ll be able to get somewhere…

I did like what I’ve seen from Veleno at camp… He also could help with our faceoffs problem.
If Laine doesn’t play on the first powerplay wave, it’s easy to question his actual utility/role on this team.
I wrote before the season I wanted to believe in him. That he’d show more speed and more intensity…. I think he has…. but in a very small way.
Maybe he’s the kind of guy that gets traded with salary retained to a team that needs a powerplay specialist in return for whatever we feel we might need during the season.

Bolduc is an hell of an acquisition so far.
It’s really nice to have more than one line who can score for a change.He was a top 6 player with the Blues. The Snake Simon Boisvert said that trade was a huge steal for mtl at the time.
I said before the season that Bolduc would play a key role on the pp and push Laine out of the way. We are here.

– Not much playing time for Kapenen… would have like to see him get some PP, just to mix it up a little, given the Habs were terrible / predictable.
– I like Demidov, but he reminds me of Slaf year 1 – always looking to make the pass / deferring to others. Needs to be selfish and shoot more… but I really appreciated his hustle to kill the breakaway during that Power Play.
– A win is a win, but they should have blown the Hawks out of the water.

And the second unit is clearly not as strong as the first.

I think they might be good at some point when their players are older but if they pull a Buffalo and trade Bedard, expect him to move on to win elsewhere with a real NHL team.

Montreal Canadiens Owner, President and Chief Executive Officer Geoff Molson announced on Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms on multi-year contract extensions with hockey executive Jeff Gorton, as well as with General Manager Kent Hughes. Molson also announced that Gorton became President of Hockey Operations. Both executives were in the final year of their previous contracts.

Who is your nicest habs surprise thus far ?
I’m surprised the top 3 lines work as they are built. Even the Dach line looks decent out there (Bolduc and Gallagher have been really good). Demidov with Kapanen and Newhook has looked dangerous too (but Demidov needs to be more selfish and shoot more, stop passing all the time!).
That 4th line is brutal, feel bad for Anderson and Evans.
Habs need to find a way to either put Laine in a better position or find a way to trade him.
The short-term fix is likely to swap Laine and Gallagher.

i think the site and the amount of users can only grow. especially since people kind of lost a place to go with the way ek’s site is set up now. that site is basically forcing its users to look for other places to play. so i think the growth of the hawks forum will last.

Man, Guhle cannot catch a break. I love his game but his inability to stay healthy at the pro level is starting to get tiresome. He’s hurt for a chunk of the season every single year. Good thing we brought Dobson in since we can’t seem to rely on Gulhe being in & Reinbacher(possible future) being made of glass.
Should be interesting to see what this patchwork lineup is able to do tonight. Going to be a struggle IMO. Thinking Suzuki finally gets a goal tonight after almost winning it Thursday on multiple occasions. First line gotta hulk up. Come on Slaf, get it going!

Maybe I should have clarified, struggle in the context of dictating the play. Lineup shuffling can always have some interesting effects on the squad. Maybe it goes smoothly or maybe it doesn’t. Think it’s a scruffy and messy game tonight. Hopefully I’m wrong.

i know this is blasphemous to most but i rank the stones way lower on my own personal list of classic rock bands. i don’t have an actual list but i know that if the beatles, stones, the who, and ac/dc are all on the radio at the same time i’m listening to all those others before the stones.
IF I had a list the stones are def in my top 5-7 range. the top 3 are the same always. the order changes pending my mood. i am a more of doors guy than ac/dc.

i think the who is my number one. i don’t know, it’s so hard to pick. and like you said it probably changes with my mood. i do also love the doors.
i developed a real love of AC/DC a few years ago. i decided to make a playlist and when i was listening to their albums i found a whole new appreciation and the whole “all their songs sound the same” thing people talk about fell away. after that, i had to find a way around my love of bon scott over brian johnson. soon enough i learned to love brian, but he’ll still never be bon scott.

I thought the Dach, Bolduc, Gallagher line looked pretty decent, but I’d rather have Evans, Anderson and Gallagher together.

I suspect many players would look good playing with Demidov, but Kapanen has also exceeded any expectations I had, and despite the lack of size their line has looked pretty decent.
I think it’s a slow start for Laine, he was the “X factor” last year on the PP but so far this season it’s been pretty meh, and if he isn’t scoring, well he isn’t doing much lol. I don’t really want him to stay the whole year with the habs but it would be easier to get rid of him if he’s playing and producing.

pretty sure his production last year was not a figment of our imagination, he was scoring regularly last year on the PP as soon as he joined the team, which helped them make the playoffs, and this year so far he isn’t.

yeah, finding the right balance and giving him a precise role without him being in the top 6 or on the 1st PP wave seems a bit tricky, we’ll see how things develop as the season goes I guess.
wouldn’t be the end of the world if the worst-case scenario is he ends up being a healthy scratch and just walks away at the end of the season, but flipping him for picks/assets would be ideal.

the phones are great. i made my 3rd trip to a T-mobile store today. I upgraded the service and when returning the orig unit, they forgot to give me the mesh booster. now, it should be a matter of fine tuning locations for both.

When I played early hockey – like 5-6 – we had a rotating goalie thing going. Everyone got a chance to play at least once.
Let in 1 goal, mostly because I was falling flat on the ice and no one could lift the puck very well.
Never played goalie again.

i loved playing but i didn’t really stop to understand the mechanics of everything until later in life. i just threw myself around. like, i got angles and coming out further from my net to take space away and all that but there are so many things i learned years later and though to myself “man, i really could have applied that knowledge back then.”
