Well, it was the worst kept secret in hockey. He’s here. We deal with it. I remember a joke that went something like this.
Who was the only coach who could keep Steven Stamkos under 25 goals? Rick Tocchet.

So I went back and did some reading, it looks like Stamkos had very positive things to say about Tocchet in terms of how he developed him as a player and especially rebuilt his confidence after Barry Melrose practically destroyed it.

It will be pretty hilarious if his staff ends up being Recchi and Richardson, just from the standpoint of watching the fan base lose their minds both positively and negatively depending on the “side” you come down on.

One thing for sure is that it seems Tocchet may be old school like Torts, but by all accounts he is the opposite it terms of mentality. Whereas Torts was a negative force, it seems Tocchet is more of a positive force.

So, each old school, but from opposite ends of the spectrum.

He is here for at least 3 seasons so we should just get used to it lol.

cant blame tocchet for taking the bag. a lazy underwhelming hire. the GM also doing an underwhelming job.

at this point looking forward to see who they trade for, who they trade out, and free agency. this is the route they are going to take to get back into “contention”

I’m pretty much with yes its me. It’s a predictable hire. It’s fine. I think Toc is a fine coach. Sounds like he’s a pretty straight forward guy. No more head-games. Hopefully that’ll be good for Coots. I’d be more excited if we had players like Toc, Richardson, Recchi, Jones, Briere, in their prime, playing on the team than I am with them running the team, but I dont have anything against them. I’d be cool with Recci and Richardson as assistant coaches. It’s not like these guys aren’t qualified NHL coaches. I was just hoping for a more offensive exciting style of play.

would have rather went with a young retread who needs a 2nd chance than one with a flat out losing track record; if going the retread route. the dump and chase style puck possession be dammed.

Does anyone really see a path to contention with this current management and player group (current roster and in the system).

With the hiring of Tocchet, I see it as a pretty strong signal this is the direction they’re taking, and will go so far as to say it’s the only way they can go at this point. Problem is, they need too many pieces to get to where they think Tocchet can/will take them.

As usual, they’ve painted themselves into a corner. But hey, it’s a ‘New Era of Orange,’ right?

This is an uninspiring hire. A new shiny toy that screams “The Flyer Way” for the triumvirate to trumpet

Another season of being on the bubble and over valuing their own players is on deck
