Participantlol
That’s gotta be the Habs biggest mistake over the last 4 years.September 1, 2025 at 9:19 pm #24263Dan Maloneys left hook
ParticipantMontreal would probably want to expand it to Kirby Dach for Frank Nazar.

ParticipantIn 2021, Montreal lost the Stanley Cup final in 5 games.
4 years later, after a rebuild on the fly, they made it back to the playoffs.
They did that by making many very smart moves and very few mistakes. So, if you are proposing a trade with them, you have to ask: Would a really smart, well run team like Montreal agree to this trade?”
I don’t think Montreal will just take back “stuff” to get rid of the Price contract.
Pay with draft picks? Sure, they have all their own picks (plus a few extra) over the next 3 years.
Trade the Price contract *and* picks plus a young player for a veteran who can help them right now? Also sounds like something they would do.
But, trade the Price contract for some other team’s leftovers, problems, or bad contracts? I don’t think that is likely to happen.September 1, 2025 at 8:06 pm #24244boilermaker
ParticipantThanks for stopping by Rico. The more the merrier.
Yes Frenchy was worth the long wait for a Hawks blogger.

ParticipantAs Metalhead pointed out earlier, the return for Price alone would be minimal.
I would like to see the trade expanded to get back something of more value. Maybe Reichel could go the other way. I would like to get at least a 2nd rounder back from the Habs in any Price deal.September 1, 2025 at 2:28 pm #24143Mr Ricochet
ParticipantReally nice to see old faces trickle in and as we saw down the dial an all in one thread works well. Like rpete says we’ll be to 11k posts in no time …. Great idea, BM.
As we all know KD and Crew’s own draft picks are arriving in the Bigs and the roster is saying he thinks it’s time to throw quite a few kids into the deep end of the pool (camp will tell us more). One of the best things about KD IMO is he ain’t worried a bit about allowing players to develop at their own pace from jrs on up. He’s not throwing in a KK to see if he can “survive” an NHL season before he’s ready. Kids up when management thinks a kid is ready not where a kid “should” be in his development. The proper older school way..
Frenchy it seems was sent by The Hockey Gods for Hawks fans at just the right time.

ParticipantWondering if Kyle enters the chat for Carey Price’s contract. Brossoit for Price + 2026 conditional pick perhaps? Habs are currently $4.8 million over the cap. Swapping Price for Brossoit would get the Habs $3 mil under the cap so they’d still have room to play with down the line. Also nets them a solid goalie if he returns to playing in 25-26. For Hawks, they get something in return for Brossoit and let their problem become the Habs’ problem while absorbing Price’s contract.

Participant(something I posted earlier this summer, before people started showing up)
A look at the trade for the rotting corpse of Shea Weber(‘s contract):
————————————
March 7th, 2025 (w/Utah)
Hawks gave:
2026 5th round pickHawks received:
Weber contract
Victor Soderstrom
Aku Raty (went to play in Finland)
————————————-
June 13th, 2025 (w/Boston)
Hawks gave:
Victor SoderstromHawks received:
Ryan Mast
2025 7th round pick
————————————
June 28th, 2025 (w/Florida)
Hawks gave:
2025 7th round pickHawks received:
2026 7th round pick
————————————
Overall the Hawks gave up:
1.25 million dollars (Weber contract is only $1mm/year real money in the ’24/25 and ’25/26 seasons. Approx. 0.25mm in ’24/25 and $1mm in ’25/26)
2026 5th round pickOverall the Hawks received:
7.86 million dollar cap hit
Ryan Mast (AHL D-man)
2026 7th round pickSeems alright. I wouldn’t get too happy or sad about this. Cheap emergency cap floor compliance.

ParticipantCould be the Penguins, too. They’ll probably have to retain on someone like Karlsson and/or take money back so they may not need Price’s contract to provide a cushion above the floor. We’ll see.
