I know I am not the only one that watches games that do not involve the Hawks, Mackinnon, McDavid, Hughes (often injured) get hacked and whacked in prime scoring positions with no penalty called.
Interesting about head hits too, I remember on the old board when Hagel ran Barkov with a direct head hit in the playoffs without the puck and Barkov was called soft.

So many fans of every team in every sport are convinced that the refs/umpires/officials hate their team and want to screw them over.

A goalie win for Buffalo tonight.

Except it wasn’t a head hit, he hit him shoulder to shoulder. It was more about the puck not being on his stick but keep beating that drum

I’ll be honest i had no interest in watching NHL hockey Friday because of the 2 terrible calls. So i didn’t. Won’t watch today either. I have tickets for Sunday and I’m thinking about just giving away my tickets that’s what that ref did to me.

I get it most people enable the refs, so the expectation is hockey players need to be tough work hard and be passionate, yet the refs get a pass on bad calls, no calls and not being thick skinned. I hope woman begin entering the league as refs because they need to eliminate the egos these young men have who couldn’t make it as an NHL player.

I don’t know what you were looking at, but it was a direct hit to the head with the top of his arm. You can see his head rock back. The problem with this, the NHL doesn’t care. Twice in two games and the NHL hasn’t taken any action. This is deplorable. They need stricter rules on hits to the head. Whether it was intentional or not, it is not acceptable. These are players’ lives. You would think the NHL would care a little about that.

I’m sure there is a variety of people on this board. (although I think we might skew a bit to the “older” side, not sure)
    Different business careers and industries.
Maybe even a range from a CEO of a company all the way down to a grade school janitor. Who knows.
And personal: long time marriages, divorced, never or not yet married, who knows.
No children, one child, or a ton of kids. Probably a variety of personal backgrounds also.

What I really *would* like to know is, who, if anyone reading or commenting on this board
can say that any notable part of their success in life came from complaining about things that are out of their control.

    Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?
Please respond with a story about how bitching about something *you have no control over* produced something significant for you.
I will also like to read some stories detailing how “feeling sorry for myself” produced a tangible, positive outcome.

It’s called venting? So you’re saying you’ve never bitched about something that happened to you or someone or something you cared for in your life?

But then you post about others complaining with some crap about life?

    Sure

Ryan Lindgren was not suspended for his hit on Andre Burakovsky during their November 20, 2025 game because the hit was determined to be unavoidable head contact under NHL rules.
The hit was reviewed by the NHL Department of Player Safety (DoPS), who found that while there was significant head contact, Lindgren was tracking the play with a proper angle of approach and did not extend his body upward or outward to target the head. The determination was that the primary point of contact was the body, and the head contact was a result of the dynamic nature of the play and Burakovsky’s body position

So DOps did look at it, and this is the answer.

So when is a head shot not a head shot? When it’s a head shot. Reminds me of when Seabrook got head shot near the net and there was no suspension because he was in the “hitting zone”

So, here is a suggestion for the NHL. Institute a rule that reads Any contact with the head, whether intentional or incidental, will result in a game misconduct. Then let’s see how often it happens.

I am fine with any rule change that enhances public safety. But the start of this conversation was about the ref’s cheating cause every call or non-call goes against the Hawks. I guess the Hawks are the only team in the league that complains about the refs

Maybe they still remember when Tom Lysiak dumped a linesman on his ass on a face off cause he didn’t like a call? Or when the old stadium was chanting Ashley is a bum (a very common trait) and Mikita stood in front of him making a conductor’s gesture?

IMO if Bedard wouldn’t have got in the ref’s face, and just skated away and said what he said, no call would have been made. I also thought that instead of a 2 minute penalty, he should have gotten a misconduct. Punish the player, not the team by putting them shorthanded in that instance.

Dots, you don’t have to explain or apologize for how you feel when you root for your club. There is no right or wrong…… But, and I think I mentioned to you 5-10 yrs ago, it’s too bad that bad calls take that much enjoyment outa the experience for you. .. When all is said and done hockey/sport is an escape for the majority of fans no matter the sport or continent. And we need it.

hockey/sport is an escape for the majority of fans

    This is true.

A long time ago, I learned to be conscious of the fact that this is a pastime, something to enjoy.
I never became a fair weather fan or bandwagon jumper.
However, I stopped habitually making myself miserable by watching something that irritated me.
I turned off games many times these past 2 seasons when they were making me angry instead of happy.

However, there’s more to this issue: constantly, excessively airing one’s grievances on a public forum like this
makes it more difficult for others to enjoy what is supposed to be an escape.
I should not have to apologize for “venting” about what frustrates me, any more than anyone else.
I have just as much right to get frustrated by the ref complaints, as others do to get frustrated by the refs.
