ParticipantIf the way we were winning was unsustainable in the beginning of the season then logic would say we need more talent, 3 ways of getting more talent is FA, trade or draft closer to 1st instead of 31st? At least they are guaranteed one avenue of getting better.
Saying tanking is the only way ignored reality. The Hawks didn’t win those Cups because they lost on purpose, they won because they drafted and developed players outside the top of the draft, and had competent management. Tons of teams tanked just as hard and are still irrelevant. Tanking gets you picks, it doesn’t build a dynasty. Development does.
If tanking worked like people claim, the Hawks wouldn’t be the exception_every bottom feeder would be a contender. High picks
Didn’t win those Cups, drafting, development, and smart trades did. Losing on purpose isn’t a strategy, it’s an excuse. If tanking were the only way, every rebuilding team would eventually contend. The NHL has shown over and over that development and scouting beat draft position
Tanking is what bad organizations hide behind. The Hawks built a dynasty because they were elite at development, not because they were elite at losing.
Bedard isn’t a rebuild, he is an opportunity. Tanking got Chicago a player, not a team. Until they show they can draft, develop, and build depth like the old Hawks did, “tanking works” is just a cope.

We’re still missing the Sharp trade, the lucky Bufglyien draft and the Hossa signing. Ladd was also a trade I believe? Possibly Burakovsky fills one of those roles.

ParticipantIt was nice to see Frondell score the first goal in all of the tourney, and follow it up with that quick pass to assist on Sweden’s second goal.
It is like seeing a much larger Paddie Kane on that right half-board.

ParticipantI also love d,at the 12 minute left mark in the 3rd, when Frondell got up on his can,, and then raced up the left wall and returned the favor sending a Slovakian player to the ice with an even harder impetus.

Nope I’m saying if you are willing to commit to a rebuild and accumulate many high end picks and develop them, which they are doing right now, is the best way to do a rebuild.
To say the 2000s the Blackhawks were good at developing players who you crapping. They were so disorganized, so what you are saying is you can develop Hall of fame players like Kane, Toews, Keith, Seabrook? Sorry i disagree.
If we are the worst team in the league next year i will begin to agree about KD, but all along i said this is going to take 4 to 5 years.
If I’m right all these other teams that you guys love because i guess they are building their teams the right way whatever that means, they will begin to pass talent wise, which will turn into wins.

ParticipantHow about Vaclav Nestrasil winning that board battle behind the Canada net and passing it out as the secondary assist on that game leading 3-3 goal?

He won a FO draw in the Ozone in early 2nd period and fired a shot at Carter George that nearly took his head off. At the end of the period, he absolutely crushed Reid in the boards behind Canada’s net. He is a monster!

ParticipantWell, that was a golden smooth pass V Nestril that he gift-wrap late in the Czechia attack looks.

ParticipantI’m at WJC with kid. Haven’t seen Sweden yet. Will see them tomorrow. Spellacy looked good. Fast, looked strong. Son thinks 4th line ceiling. Will see. I watched the Czech game from behind Czech goal for 2 periods. It looked to me like Nestrasil was playing center and was decent in his own zone. Son said he will play wing in NHL. We will see. Going to 3 games today. Saw Kris Draper. Got a selfie with Jeff O’Neil.

ParticipantHawks have 10 out of the next 13 at home in a condensed schedule before the Olympic Break. Hopefully the Hawks can right the ship before the break.

ParticipantSorry Steve, but son from Glencoe got Vaclav Nestrasil wrong yesterday as the pivot on his line. #17 Seek-KORE-a Sykora is, and #15, Vojtech Cihar is the LW.
Nestrasil lines yup as a right handed RIGHT WING at center ice, but shifts (like most flowing forwards do) and sets up reverse to Sweden’s Frondell, as a right-handed left side of the half board shooter.
He sure scored a nice one tonight, finding that open top corner over the goalies shoulder.
I was more interested when Gordie was saying he could transfer colleges, or turn pro with the Blackhawks…

ParticipantYesterday Slovakia manhandled Germany in front of a small crowd. Full building for USA over Swiss. Spellacy played ok. Nowhere near Friday. Only a handful of shifts for Ryker Lee. He played harder away from puck but nowhere near as good as he can be. Caught 2nd and 3rd of Czech game. Maybe 1,000 fans. Nestrasil was real good. Looked to me like he was more on wing. Mostly because Czech was on pp most of what I saw and he is on the half wall. Watched USA game next to Colorado scouts. They really like Nestrasil. #12 on Czech is theirs so they have been watching that line closely. Bought tickets online for $9. Blizzard outside. Only 2 games today and silly there is one at each rink kinda close in time instead of 2 at one arena. Looking forward to seeing Frondell and Stenberg. Going to track down Stenberg’s parents and remind them of what Ivar told me in Nashville.

Something about seeing hockey players wearing their national jersey’s that elevates everything. Great for the fan… Great news you’re there with your boy, Steve, and thanks for the updates. I’ve followed so little I don’t have any useful questions, but I guess I’d ask for any thoughts on McKenna. And since you get around these functions is there any buzz about any particular player, team or anything else?
