I’m not convinced the Habs can afford to trade for Parayko as it would be costly and he turns 33 already next season.
By the time we become competitive, he’ll already have slowed down and carry a 6.5M pricetag until he’s 37.
Andersson is definetely the prime target for me, and, I cannot belive I’m saying this, I think Ceci might be a decent consolation prize if he doesn’t cost too much.

Reinbacher -Monsieurchicken
I also think Reinbacher will have every chance to make the team next season. From what I’ve seen in Laval, he’s been very good but if you pair him up with a Xhekaj or Struble on the other side, I’m not convinced it gives you a reliable pairing from the get go.
If the right veteran player is available at a cost Montreal can afford to pay, I’m convinced Kent Hughes will highly consider it.

I do wonder what his next contract would look like though… can’t see him sign under what… 8M? With the cap going up I feel like a new standard will be set this summer.

i read a couple people had this problem before but this is the first time it’s happened to me. it lets me log in but then when i go to the forums to post something it says i’m logged out. they’ll get it all working eventually i’m sure.

@Scabeh :If they trade for another top 4 defenseman, they pretty much have to move Matheson
If you dont think Reinbacher is ready to play as a 5th defenseman just yet, they only need to add a bottom 6 vet. Thats what Savard was by the end. Carrier, Matheson, Hutson, Ghule, they have their top 4.
they already have Wifi, struble and Reinbacher for their bottom 6. I would trade Mailloux this summer. Struble may have to go as well if Reinbacher makes this team at some point and they add another vet.

I’ve been watching some of the Laval Rocket’s playoff games.
With his injury, Reinbacher looks like he could use more time in the AHL, at least for part of the season. I have seen growth in his game, but he just needs more time.
Mailloux is still really bad defensively, making bad pinches, and coughing up the puck, he is not ready and I am not sure his bad defensive coverages will make him a decent NHL player. Unless things improve dramatically, he looks more and more like a 6-7 guy in the NHL.
The one player that impressed me on D was Adam Engström (or maybe, I just had low expectations for him before watching), he often looked very solid out there, but again, still rough around the edges. But at this point, ahead of Mailloux.
Given all that, I expect the Habs to go out and get some type of stop-gap Veteran RD, likely via trade given that some of those UFAs are too old (and will want long-term contracts). Of the ones you listed, Rasmus Andersson is likely the best option, but I am not sure the Flames are willing to trade him, given their lack of depth on defence and he has a cheap contract for next year. I suspect they they will likely try to extend him.
I think trading for Dobson is unlikely, given their more pressing need for second line center/scoring. I think the Habs will use their prime assets to address this issue (unless they go for a short-term older UFA to play with Demidov, like Duchene, Granlund or Nelson on a 2-3 year contract).
My guess is that HuGo do another under-the-radar trade, such as the Carrier trade from last year. I suspect it won’t be a flashy player, won’t be a long-term contract, but they will do the job until Reinbacher is ready.

I agree that Engstrom is ahead right now, more rounded game. The question with him is how high is his ceiling and what his chair will be in the NHL. It’s hard to make a spot on a roster with just being ok in everything.
Mailloux brings more offense and a big shot, he’s also more physical. But he can’t be a liability all the time on the ice. You can teach and work on defense but you can’t teach being 6’3 with a big shot and the ability to drop the gloves.
Should be interesting at camp there’s a spot for one of Reinbacher, Mailloux or Engstrom.

Hockeybuzz was great during it’s heyday, but Ek was never willing to do and spend what was necessary to evolve. The site has gotten progressively worse, and worse with each passing year. This site is brand new, and is no worse than HB. I fully expect things will get better fairly quickly. I’m willing to give them 3 months to figure things out and iron out the issues.

Not new, one of the originals. I just haven’t posted in years cause the site got so freakin’ bad. I would go read a couple of blogs and that’s it. I was not willing to give Ek any more page views than I needed to. It’s such a shame. That place was great from 2006-2011. Then a slow and steady decline started happening, and with the snowball effect and all, it became nearly unusable.

Oh it’s a very nice place if you’re looking for a quiet place near a big lake. We har our general assembly there at work… weirdly on a tuesday so today we all had to go back to work hungover.

yeah, they messed that up. that’s a friday thing for sure.
we do it here too. they had a sales meeting in florida at the end of the month last month. when all the sales reps are supposed to be closing their deals by month’s end. also, they had them all come back on friday.

My boy just started deck hockey, had to coach the last game because the coach didn’t show up.
We won 8-3 and my boy scored a goal.
Safe to say i’m the greatest coach ever.

also the Booins hiring Marco Sturm sounds like a rather curious move… oh well, (frank) them.
I don’t know if it’s because of “just” the Oettinger thing but it certainly was part of the decision. What an absolutely stupid decision and his reaction afterwards doubling down on it (and on his star goaltender) was “getting fired” worthy.
The Bruins are gonna have a rough time for a while. Let us all enjoy it!

i thought that pulling oettinger was wrong and the way he did it was really unprofessional. i’m not sure he could have stopped either goal and his teammates didn’t exactly help either.
what he said after the game just made it worse.
i mean, he went to casey desmith in an elimiation game. i’m not even sure i can trust him after that.

he’s a good coach and all but i don’t know if that’s very good leadership and i don’t know if i could trust him after that if i was the GM (or that goalie for that matter). i think i might have at least gone back to oettinger to start the second period. it’s not like pitchers in baseball who can’t go back in after a rain delay or something. you can put a goalie back in after you hope it sparks your team to pull him. i don’t really even want to hear his spiel about the status quo not working. when the status quo is oettinger and you turn to casey desmith in an elimination game you might have outthought yourself a little bit there.
