I’m sorry Mash, but I agree that being sometimes good and sometimes bad is pretty much the definition of an average NHL goalie. The consistantly good ones are amongst the best there are.

Montembeault needs to be better, he can be better (he showed it in the past despite playing for defensively challenged teams) and we’ll need him to be better during the season.

Until then, I’ll be cheering for our boy “Dobby” to keep dominating. If he ends up getting the most starts because he plays better, I see this as an absolute win for Montreal because we’ll have two young goaltenders we can rely on moving forward with Dobes and Fowler.

Monty is likely gone once his contract expires if everything goes perfectly.

yeah, you told Fido not to use personal insults but I see you aren’t doing a whole lot better.

    have a good one dude

Was not meant as an insult, was meant to clarify/better explain my position so as not to get hung up on a word.

He is just not a dependable #1 goalie.

    But whatever.

Instead of average, think middle of the pack if that stops your brain from exploding.

    *sigh*

if a player’s performances are below average more often than not, then overall he won’t be average now, will he?

I think we should move on to another topic, it’s Friday lol.

Because when he is good, he is really good.

His bad games are just really bad.

I am sure you can keep making up excuses… but the numbers and the stats show differently.

last season if not for him Habs don’t make the playoffs. as simple as that, like it or not.
only 4 goalies were better than him regarding goals saved above expected. WPG, TB, WASh and TOR. Monty was 5th.
not sure how you can say stats show differently.

29 games in Dec / March / April

    – Won 18, Lost 11, save % about .910, GAA about 2.60

31 games in Oct / Nov / Jan / Feb

    – Won 13, lost 18, save % about .887 , GAA about 3.00

Over 65% of his goals saved above expected occurred in the last 20 games he played of the season.

So last season, if he has played better in Oct, Nov, Jan or Feb – we would not have needed barely make the playoffs.

Like I said, when he is on, he is really good. But he is too inconsistent to be a dependable #1 goalie.

Do you not understand the word “often”?

I said he is an average goalie because he is inconsistent.

His performances / number clearly show he is inconsistent and often below average.

again, is he an average goalie, or is he not?

    😉
