“12. Not sure we’re going to see much trade action too early, but Philadelphia is definitely checking what’s out there on defence.”

    They should be. Hahahaha!

Need to give to get. Who of quality is even available. They will probably get some 6’4 slug to fit the flyers profile. Then hype him up to an extent.

The defense is downright putrid. Now that York is hurt it will be that much worse. In no order. That is ugly as sin.

    Sanhiem- juulson
    Seeler – jd
    Zamula – ginning

Ginning is playing the best of the bottom end D. I can see him paired with Sanheim and then Zamula and Juulsen. The Flyers D is not great healthy. They need another Top 4 guy, which I’ve been saying is a big need since before free agency over the summer.

PUTRID? … C’mon…. Hyperbole much? its not Darnell Nurse on Defense. I get it that fans are unhappy but be realistic with the criticism and expectations.

I think Zamula and Juulsen are the 3rd pair, and that could be stress inducing. They still have to play the games. Might hold up short term. It’s not a long term solution.

absolutely love it. flyers homer writers are the best. cant wait to see what hayes level player they overpay and prop up. remember when they tried to make hayes the face of the franchise, I member.

all the “big” names will be gone and not even make it to free agency. love their base core, lol. funny how tippet is now thrown out there in trades.

Writer did drop Byram’s name which has come up regularly in relation to Flyers interest. They really do need one more Top 4 guy. I was actually impressed with noticeable step ups through camp from York and, more importantly, Drysdale. So when fully healthy, which may or may not happen often, I think the Flyers D looks OK for a team coming out of a valley. The bad stuff I see out there doesn’t seem like system unfamiliarity, just individual gaffes.

Yes and uses tippet as the return. Would you do that if you are buffalo?

No, they need at least 2 top 4 guys, preferably a legit top pair. One isn’t going to cut it at all. Do not agree at all they look ok. Seeler and JD as a 2nd pair is laughable. JD showed me nothing that he will take a step to be a legit top 4 dman. They are both bottom pair guys on any contending team; if that. Should have moved Seeler when he had value. Dumb just dumb to re-sign him for 4 years.

When healthy, this is not terrible:

    York-Sanheim
    Ginning-Risto
    Seeler-Drysdale

Drysdale looked far more stable and reliable in his own end through camp than he did last season. That’s a good thing as I ideally had him penciled in as a 3rd pair guy with some PP time. Seeler is OK, he was out there for some bad goals in camp when he was paired with guys, namely Grans, who didn’t make the cut. My biggest concerns right now are Zamula, who throws the puck away too much and isn’t bearing down on locking guys up in close quarters, and Ersson, who is still giving up a softy a game which isn’t acceptable.

Disagree. You have a 2nd pair and 2 bottom pairs. Easily in the bottom 10 in the league. Time will teel what they have in JD. Going to be interesting to see what they do with him in terms of re-signing him. His play one will hope will dictate what they do.

They have nothing on the horizon to get even remotely excited about. Nothing.

The Flyers are still a cut well below the Top D groupings in the league which, not surprisingly, are the defenses for the top teams in the league. You’re overestimating the rest. Flyers were 8th in the league in fewest shots allowed last year. It’s a curious stat considering their overall record, but . . . there’s something there. Of course they could just forfeit all the games this season and try again next year.

Not overestimating anything. There is nothing there. They have a piss poor defense on paper. To argue otherwise is flat out wrong. They have 2 players (the only 2 who will be around in a few years unless moved) on D who other teams would want and help a team. Arguably you can say seeler and JD may help some team’s bottom pair.

Again, how you try to rationalize this grouping baffles the mind.

There is no rationalization. Sanheim, York, Risto, Drysdale, Seeler and Mister 6 are not the Florida D corps but they aren’t piss poor either. Piss poor is Chicago’s defense even with the future Norris winner Levshunov.
