Participant“Oliver Bonk (upper body): Bonk suffered an injury during Rookie Camp. The Flyers intially classified it as day-to-day. However, the rookie defenseman has not skated or practiced since then. He underwent further evaluation last week. There is no further update since then.”
All one can do is shake their head. Any idea what that “injury” may be?
Will RR be back before the end of the year?

Flyers injury updates are the worst. You’d get better information from a magic 8-ball.

ParticipantI did no get to watch too much of the game last night, but from what i saw.
Gard and Grans had some nice plays. Gard played the body well/checking and skates well. I did not know much about him. He appears to be on a good path.
Richard and Abols seem like they will be call ups again. Of the two would prefer Richard right now.
What stick does tippet use……seems to break a lot

gard is a big boy.
– Good to see dvorak getting 20 minutes. He will be a key player this season. Will go down as an underrated signing by the gm. Look for him to be re-signed at some point.
– ND needs to be in the lineup more times than not. They need his physicality and presence.
– Need to show patience with Hunter Mac. All the tools are there; “Jonesy” knows his hockey.
– gilbert may end up the next Seeler in terms of taking a guy off the scrap heap and becoming a solid bottom pair dman. Maybe that will allow them to move seeler as that contract should be easy to get rid of. Should be in demand.

ParticipantAn offensive zone turnover combined with a bad D pairing change led to the first goal. A weak bleeder on Ersson was goal against two. Suzuki made a shot for the third. Flyers didn’t get enough the other way to overcome that. They were flat and outplayed badly in the first period. After that, the play was more even with the Flyers getting some good chances and both their goals. Bump looked good again. Luchanko looked fast. Kolosov stopped pucks.

Participant“There’s no spot for Deslauriers in the regular NHL top 12 at this point.” – kudos Bill.
“ I suspect Tocchet placed Deslauriers there as a deterrent to Arber Xhekaj from running at one of the rookies.” – this is why Nd will make the team and play in games. He is not a deterrent in any way, shape, or form. No one fears ND or says wow I can’t hit someone if I must answer to ND. The flyers will always keep that line of thinking alive, however.
ND needs to be waived then sat in the press box in LHV.
As for the Jett. He skates fast, great. Wont mean a damn thing if he can’t produce.

He actually used his speed to close gaps very effectively defensively. He just has to produce more than the guys he’s competing for a spot against.

Participantwho is he competing against?
I think they have 3 spots open up front, 4C and two wingers. Since Abols is in the mix and can play wing or center, really anybody competing for a spot. Grebenkin, Abols, Brink, Bump maybe a couple of others.

they only have 2 spots open. assuming nd is the 13th forward; which one shouldn’t assume.
unless they move cates or dvorak to the wing that would leave 2 wing spots open. That would exclude the jett.
If one of those 2 is moved, then clearly the 4th line center spot is up for grabs. Abols has been used on the wing in both games. Tells me they probably don’t see him as an option for 4th line center. if they do then odd not to play at center.
never know what will fall on the waiver wire either.
still pushing that brink doesn’t have a spot locked up. good stuff.

What makes you so sure they won’t use either Cates or Dvorak on the wing in season? If Tocchet wants the best possible talent in his Top 9, that’s the way to do it. Cates and Dvorak both are too good to be 4th liners. Abols can win draws. He’s exceeded my expectations so far and that does make a Luchanko decision more interesting. Brink doesn’t have a Top 12 roster spot locked. His situation, along with Deslauriers to an extent, are similar. All other things being close to equal, you go with the bigger guy. Based on last night, Deslauriers isn’t close to equal. He’s a designated fighter. We’ll see how much Tocchet values that. His fight woke the team up a bit last night. I can also see Brink and Deslauriers as 13th and 14th forwards on this team.

– Never said they wouldn’t. in fact, I have said repeatedly. Dvorak will end up on the wing. Best lineup has both as centers which would allow you to play bump and the Russian.
– Again, abols has been used as a winger. If they see him as a nhl center then it is very odd to not use him as such in the preseason don’t you think.
– The jett to me has no business being in the nhl currently. Send him back as he has plenty to work on.
– Brink 100% has a locked-up spot. Foolish to think otherwise. His and ND situation are not similar to any extent. ND stinks. He has no business playing in either the nhl/ahl. He offers nothing that helps your team win. The % are higher he helps you lose. I will be shocked if they waive ND. Do that and have abols as your 13th forward. Need that “fear” factor ND brings.

They can play Bump and Grebenkin with Cates or Dvorak on the wing.
GREBENKIN COUTURIER MICHKOV
DVORAK ZEGRAS KONECNY
FOERSTER CATES TIPPETT
BUMP ABOLS HATHAWAYAbols is reasonably versatile. How is that a problem?
They’re still holding their potential juniors: Nesbitt, Gill, Luchanko. If Luchanko has so much to work on, why not keep him here and give him some idea of what he needs to upgrade?
I fully support trading Brink to Carolina so you can go root for them. It’s over here for him, just a matter of when. Get something for him while he still has value. That .5 PPG last year was a mirage. Cates and Foerster carried that line. Get Tippett on their RW.

That is not the best lineup. Now all of sudden you’re an abols guy. Too funny.
Him getting traded is irrelevant. Bump, the Russian, the jett, abols, or any other rookie is not taking brinks place in the lineup come opening night.
Who said abols being “versatile” is a problem. Why are they not using him as a center currently if they have any intentions of using him there at the NHL level. Would really love to hear your professional opinion.
Still holding their potential juniors? Meaning what? It is common procedure to let those types soak up the atmosphere. Have the even had any cuts yet?
Where did I say not to keep the jett around until the end. Never even implied it in any way.
Not sure what your fascination is with Carolina.

I’m not allowed to be unsold on a player and then adjust when I see him play at a higher level? They have lots of guys to look at in the middle. I wouldn’t read too much into it.
How much longer do you seriously think Brink will be around?
I still think Jett will get the 8 game look at season’s start. You like speedy players, so why the Jett hate? Oh I forgot, he’s a Flyer.
I love watching the Canes play. They’re stacked with small, speedy, skilled needle movers.

– Who are the lots of guys they need to look at for this season as a 4th line center
– Doesn’t matter how long he will be around. Has nothing to do with you saying he isn’t a lock to be in the top 12 this season; of which he is 100%. His production will dictate his future.
– No jett hate at all. He is a center not a winger. Don’t think he should be in the nhl at this time. His lack of offense is worrisome. Hasn’t shown anything offensively that he belongs. Didn’t dominate juniors either.
– Canes > flyers. Have been for over how many years now. Not gonna change anytime soon. Those small speedy wingers are why they cant get over the hump. They need to follow the flyers blueprint. I bet if they offered a 1st for GH flyers would decline.

Check the training camp roster. Nine or 10 guys total including the 4 roster locks.
Hahaha! If Brink is not here at all, he can’t take up a roster spot . . . or can he? Trade now! His value is the highest it will ever be.
Jett’s played one PS game so far. He created some chances, his speed is noticeable and he’s not small. The situation in Guelph is a complicating factor. The team is apparently a catastrophe on-ice and off. The Flyers would be sending him back to that, not some idyllic haven for hockey development. He’s still getting the 8 game look.

– The GM doesn’t understand the concept of selling high. he missed that lesson at his wharton online tutorial.

Never said 4C, per se. They’re guys getting the shifts at center. Couturier, Zegras, Dvorak, Cates, Nesbitt, Luchanko, Gard, Gaucher, Richard, Barkey are listed as centers plus Abols. Half of these guys aren’t in the mix for a roster spot. Jett was getting his shifts at center last night.
