I took 2 magic 8 balls and smashed them together to make #16 and this is what they told me:
Mc Marner to San Jose on a big time overpay, maybe even close to max cap space deal (20% of the cap) to be the face of the franchise & made captain (Since Logan Couture announced his retirement in April) with Cellebrini so for next year 20% of the cap is 19.1M I could see San Jose making Marner the highest paid player in the NHL.
Sharks are projected to have nearly 42M in cap space this year.
Yes I’m being silly with the max cap space thing but I could totally see San Jose making a serious offer to make Marner the highest paid guy in the league and maybe give him the C (for sure he would get an A).
Today I learned that for all I think I know about hockey, I’m absolutely terrible at guessing at fringe players who have scored 5+ goals in a single playoff year.
Today’s Puckdoku – I was 0/3 in guessing at players for Tampa, Detroit and Pittsburgh (noting that I’m trying to get the <2% guys). But apparently, as one example, >5 goals is much less frequent than I thought – Andreychuk did it once in his entire career and it was not for Tampa. – MonkeyPunk
I usually suck at Puckdoku unless it heavily involves one of my teams and/or teams from the East. I know almost nothing about players from old teams out west. But I saw your post and decided to give this one a shot.

????????????It’s pretty clear that most (if not all) of the “Best Games” are cheaters. Nobody, I mean NOBODY, remembers some of those players, less yet multiples on the same board. I call bullshit.
Marner has the misfortune of having to pay taxes in Canada. That means he will take home significantly less money than his cap hit will suggest he makes. The NHL has no will to change it any time soon either.
Rantanen makes 12 AAV in Dallas which means he actually takes home 7,601,813. For Marner to make the exact same amount, he’d have to have a cap hit of 16.4 AAV to take home 7,664,895. Everybody needs to stop and think about that for a second. That’s how bad the taxes fuck over the Leafs trying to sign players who negotiate based on what they’re taking home. So if Marner is asking for 13 AAV, in reality he is only taking home 6,084,445 for 8 years and a total of 48.6 million dollars. When compared to the 7,601,813 per year Rantanen takes home, it’s actually fair value. The fair compromise for both sides is 13.16 x 8 and Marner is actually taking a discount just nobody is realizing it.
If Utah were to give him 13 AAV, he would take home 7,640,313 per year for 7 years which totals 53.4 million dollars.
In Vegas (an immediate Cup contender), he would take home 8,231,813 for 7 years totals 57.6 million dollars.
Which means, if Utah or Vegas offered him 11 AAV, he’d still make more money, with a lower cap hit, playing for Utah or Vegas than he would for the Leafs at 13 million AAV.This IS NOT a matter of greed. Marner could be leaving anywhere between 5-10 million dollars on the table to play for the Leafs at that price. He’s not negotiating for nickels and dimes in difference

Good he’s taxed and it is about greed. There are ways around getting taxed that much, plus all the extra sponsorship he would get….or has. Also, $6.1 yankee is $8.35 CDN and he lives in Toronto so his money would go alot further.
Until the NHL does some sort of equalization (which they wont) this what we are stuck with.
