At the beginning of free agency, I said the Leafs should pick up Nikolaj Ehlers to replace Marner. I had hot lead shot at me from the usual Marner apologists. They said that he was timid and weak in his own end. Not worth the money. I bet they won’t bring this up. Marner was Super Marner, he was going to win the Cup and Conn Smythe. In reality, the West was inferior to the East. It showed in the defensive mastery by the Hurricanes. The Habs would have beat them, if they’d gotten through. But the Canes did the Leafs Nation a solid and got rid of both the Habs and Mercenary Marner. Time for Marner to go dark, in the closet at Justin Bieber’s pad.
When the season ended for the Leafs, it looked like a dreary season with no hope. We were going to hand Boston the 6th pick in the draft, and they were destined to draft a top end defenseman with that pick, until the lucky #12 ball happened. Next, the Marlies went on a run that no one saw coming, having to advance from the Play-in round. They’re 2 wins away from an improbable Championship. From no hope to optimism. Once an old team with few prospects, we get to see the blossoming of Easton Cowan and Ben Danford with the Marlies. Add the top pick in the draft, probably Gavin McKenna, and the team doesn’t look so dreary. A certain poster would like to tear the roster down to the foundation. That made no sense, considering that we had traded our next 2 first round picks away. Why would you do that when we have two prospects ready to make the jump and a probable high end prospect coming out of the draft? We also possess 4 NHL caliber goaltenders that could afford the team to make one or two trades from the strength we have in the crease. Matthews and Nylander are elite players. We could possibly trade one or both, but I believe that this team needs to start fresh next year, and if the team is trending downwards, trade the elite talent at the trade deadline. A new GM and Coaching staff could turn this team back into a playoff team. The defense was broken last year, due to injuries. By moving Rielly and picking up a free agent or two for the back end, this team is again competitive. We just saw a young unknown goaltender win a Stanley Cup in Carolina. Do we have such a goaltender on the Marlies? By what we’ve witnessed, it could be a “yes”. I think the Leafs may surprise us next year, if they add 4 or 5 strategic pieces. Time will tell.

Him to leave the leafs, make the finals when the leafs missed the playoffs, get a hatty in the third game and then still lose the cup while the leafs get to replace him, a former 4th overall, with a 1st, is pretty damn amusing tbh lol
