ParticipantThey might as well go out and get the best deal for Knies. I’m sure he feels slighted and now won’t trust the management. A quiet auction should occur and if something significant appears, make the trade. I’d like to keep him, but he’ll be off somewhere else, once his contract is over. The Leafs are in no position to compete for a Cup anyways, so just go after draft capital. 2 firsts and prospect should suffice.
Won’t trust the management? Well that management is gone so it shouldn’t be an issue now.

ParticipantKnies is the stupidest player to trade given his age. But it shows how bad Treliving was and how valuable Matthews and Nylander would be with 50% retained.
Full rebuild!
Not to mention if they had traded Knies the lucky ass odds of them landing the first overall would have changed and I would have bet they wouldn’t have gotten it.

Participantgone in 60 seconds.
if that trade did go down, then you are looking at a rebuild and not a retool.Knies is the stupidest player to trade given his age. But it shows how bad Treliving was and how valuable Matthews and Nylander would be with 50% retained.

ParticipantI wonder if a Nurse for Stolarz deal can be worked out.
You’d need to move Reily out mind you.
Then you go after Andersson 7 x 8.5M ~ 9.5M if he hit free agency.Nurse is getting 9.5 AAV and he’s just as bad as Rielly. And you’re assuming Nurse even wants to waive his NTC to go from a contender to the Leafs.
Again, why does Andersson sign in Toronto for millions under value? Cup Final to the basement for less money? Makes no sense.

ParticipantOutside of Danford, Cowan and the Russian goalie, there really isn’t much in the way of young talent on the Marlies. Just a group of blue collar guys, trying to win for each other. Nothing wrong with that. If they win the Calder Cup, some might get a longer look at training camp, or maybe another team might take a flyer on one and insist on them as a throw in, if there’s a trade. Honest hockey players, unlike their mercenary cousins who play with the Leafs. The NHL guys, with their big money are glorified performers who’ll probably never go hungry. In reality they see themselves as actors in the big show, performing for the trained seals that pay the ridiculous money to see them do their skills competition. Enjoy these guys on the Marlies who play for the love of the game.
