ParticipantWinning the lottery *should* lead to trading Matthews and Nylander, and proceeding with an actual rebuild, hopefully getting a franchise D (somehow) and replenishing a few picks.
What will happen is they will try to re-tool and continue to make a mess of it.
There is no way this team is better than ANY other team in the Atlantic. I am not sure they are even close to anyone.

Participantiv never seen anyone say that. why do you keep saying it. nobody is thinking 1 player fixes a team.
a #1 pick in your hand is better than 2 unknowns. they werent rebuilding yet anyway.Having #1 gives a lot more options and opens lots of interesting possibilities, if they chose to go that route
A generational player can fix a team especially if it was on the blueline where the Leafs need the most help. McKenna isn’t that guy. Wrong skill set, wrong position, wrong player.
Their options are to rebuild or to not rebuild. This will only push them further down the road of retool which will fail and delay the inevitable.
If they had given Boston this pick and the Flyers the next one, they could have traded Matthews at the 2027 draft and gone on a consecutive run of tanks. This only disrupts the rebuild unless they trade down and fire sale the team which they won’t do because Pelley thinks they can retool.

ParticipantThere is literally zero downside to having the first overall pick.
The downside is if they make an error on how to manage it which the Leafs almost always do.
This management team of inexperience and retards will find a way to fuck it up as the previous one did during the Matthews era.

ParticipantMarner is also a massive vagina with zero grit or physical game. McKenna is breaking people’s jaws in the bar at night. I’ll take that any day over a guy who won’t even hit anyone with his purse.
Marner is winning games for Vegas while the Leafs are shit without him. You’re too retarded to actually watch the games where he wins battles along the boards and goes to the front of the net.
Let’s see McKenna try that shit on guys NHL sized and not some drunk random idiot. Won’t happen because he’s a midget by NHL standards and unlike Marner plays ZERO defense.

Participantor send them Nylander.
Matthews to LA to replace KopitarNylander to CHI with 50% salary retained for 4th overall + Sam Rinzel
Matthews to SJS with 50% salary retained for 2nd overall + Misa (or Will Smith) + William EklundLeafs draft Stenberg, Malhotra and either Reid or Verhoeff.
Knies | Misa | Cowan
Eklund| Malhotra | StenbergVerhoeff or Reid
Rinzel
DanfordCan’t tank again until 2029 but that’s a start to a rebuild.

ParticipantMcKenna is not good enough to fix this team by himself

ParticipantImagine being so blinded by homerism that you can’t see the Leafs are still absolutely fucked and this pick is simply delaying the rebuilding process that is necessary.
Biggest losers since 1967 for a reason anybody in hockey has ever seen.
This is by a long shot your dumbest take ever, and that’s saying something. There is literally zero downside to having the first overall pick.

ParticipantMcKenna has ZERO defensive game. Marner is an elite two-way winger. You’re a total libtard. Get a fucking clue.

Participantone day they will tank and rebuild and hopefully get a #1 pick that rebuilding teams need
Rebuilding is about timing. The timing for this #1 pick is absolutely horrible. It just feeds the delusion they can retool. The issue is they can’t continue to tank because they now don’t have their own pick for 2027 and 2028.
McKenna is not good enough to fix this team by himself so all it does is delay the inevitable. A 2-3 year gap between another lottery pick completely fucks up their ability to consistently tank and rebuild. It just creates the illusion that they can retool with Matthews which will fail and leave them with even less time and assets than if they had no other option than to trade him and rebuild.
They have to find a way to trade down, collect more assets, trade Matthews (retain 50% to maximize return) and Nylander (could retain on him too to increase return) and restock the farm for when they can continue to tank again in 2029 and rebuild.

ParticipantWhy the fuck would Tuch want to continue to live in Buffalo? If he wanted to be there, why hasn’t he signed an extension? People leave contenders all the time. You don’t know what motivates these guys. Yeah, they’re both long shots, and I fear overpaying Raddysh, but far crazier things have happened. The literal point of my post was that we aren’t THAT far from contending if Chayka can make some bold moves. Who knows, maybe they win the draft lottery.
Again, I share your skepticism of Chayka, but I’m not gonna be like you and blow a gasket any time anyone at MLSE breathes.
Well, would you look at that?
