Garbage time coming in hot and heavy. This looks like a mushroom cloud within the next 12 months. You think it’s bad without first rounders for 2 years, just wait and hold my Wendy’s Frosty. It’ll look like the Phoenix Coyotes of 4 years ago. Might as well start looking for a backup team to follow for the next decade. Septic tank city come on down.

Add me to the list of folks that are underwhelmed and skeptical of today’s announcements. Sounds like Chayka is young, arrogant and thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. Somehow, I don’t think that bodes well for attracting talent to Toronto or getting trades done.

Sundin is simply a nostalgia hiring, I’m not sure he can really bring much to the team. Love the guy, but what exactly is the expectation?

Pretty damning when there is a consensus here that the Leafs have fucked up big time.

Chayka could be the smartest guy but that alone isn’t enough. Like I said, if he was surrounded by legit hockey minds with other skills and experience, his contributions could be extremely valuable. But when the only thing between him and trading the next five 1st round picks is Pelley, the Leafs are absolutely fucked.

Sundin is there to try to smooth over this garbage with a familiar franchise face. It’s like spraying Febreeze on a pile of horseshit. It only lasts so long.

Hiring someone to help with the GM search and coming up with Chayka is pretty lame. how in-depth was the search?
It just makes no sense, Sundin who has zero experience and a GM who hasnt done anything in 5 years.

Dubas didnt get the ultimate results, but the teams were good at least. every move makes me miss a very meh, slightly above average GM Dubas

Odds are Pelley had a short list of demands that the new GM must retool, must keep Matthews, must keep the core and can not rebuild. That would have probably made the majority of qualified people run for the hills because they know it’s a fool’s errand.

Listening to this retard Pelley speak, he loves the smell of his own farts. He can’t sell the future so he’s selling nostalgia. But he’s more interested in being the top of the hockey pyramid than he is hiring people that can run this team properly. Steve Simmons shredded Pelley and he had no good reply.

Chayka is another Leafs pajama fan boy. It almost seems like Chayka requested Sundin be hired to fulfill his boyhood blue and white fantasy. But his results are piss poor and he’s not surrounded by enough quality, experienced support to put him on the right track.

Sundin loves the franchise, he misses hockey but he just doesn’t have what you need from a senior advisor especially after being away for 17 years. Again, if there were other people with him like Francis and Pronger, you could cover up that missing experience but there’s nobody else there except Cliff Fletcher. Yes, he’s still an “advisor”.

All three of these guys insist they’re going to do whatever it takes to win…except hire the right people to build the team properly.

    Press conference done, and …whatever
Pelley comes off as clueless and I think you could sell him magic beans very easily.

things could works out of not be a total shit show, but imo they didnt put themselves in the best position to succeed.

also..Steve Simmons questions lol..right for the jugular

put me down for extremely skeptical of this new management team. Chayka might be a much more active (and fun) GM than Tre as he tended to make lots of moves, but with very mixed results.

a bunch of moves that are not a win for the leafs could set the team back another 10 years ..

You really know the Leafs (Pelley) are retarded when we agree that Chayka ain’t the guy for the job.

If there was a legit Presidnt and GM above Chayka, that would have worked for me but his long list of errors in Arizona are too much to ignore. He has more money to play with but Pelley is effectively the President of Hockey Ops and that’s a very, very bad thing. Chayka is the new Dubas, Pelley is the shadow Shanahan and Sundin is the face forward Shanahan.

This is a disaster waiting to happen.
