Maybe it was strategic. Make it so toxic, that Nylander and Matthews will want to leave. Hence the rebuild starts. There were so many better candidates, but they chose this guy. Gruden would have been a better choice. He may end up being an assistant.

I doubt it. Hiller is the advanced stats nerd coach Chayka wants and he was probably the guy Matthews and Nylander would go to when Babcock was on their ass. Hiller was the “good cop” assistant coach from the past. Leafs are desperate to recreate the 1st round exit nostalgia of 5 years ago.

He’s also coached ultra defensive, shit offensive teams in LA the last few years so it’s not like he’s going to let the guys run wild and score a bunch of goals to increase their trade value either.

It’s a bad move if you want to contend and it’s a bad rebuild move too. It’s just another half ass, half measure typical Leafs move. Gruden was the better choice with his AHL success and the number of Marlies they could promote.

    • There was a feeling that with Brad Treliving gone from Toronto the Matthew Knies trade noise would disappear. That is not the case.

The Maple Leafs’ new front office is still looking to shake it up and Tuesday’s trade with Philadelphia is small potatoes compared to some of the things they’re thinking about. Knies’ name is the biggest one out there from Toronto and there are teams all over GM John Chayka about this player. Everyone has linked Knies to Montreal, but there are many teams pushing hard for him and it’s something the Leafs are thinking long and hard about.

Rumors about Knies not going away yet.

I know that Chicago covets Knies. I’d rather send him West, than having our chief rival get him. I wouldn’t take less than the 4th overall pick +. The 4th overall pick gets you one of the top 3 defensemen. Chase Reid would be my preferred candidate. If San Jose takes him, and Vancouver takes Malhotra, then Stenberg becomes your prize. If it’s Stenberg, maybe trading down gets you more assets in the first round.

    – Quickly on Vegas, Kelly McCrimon confirmed on Wednesday that he granted permission for Bruce Cassidy to speak to another team during the Stanley Cup Final about a head coaching position. Many believe that team was Toronto, who hired Jim Hiller for their open position on Wednesday.

    Leafs took Hiller over Cassidy.

For the record, I very much doubt Chayka will trade Knies. This will likely be another of your “Yankees in five” moments.

Prove it. Or is it another one your “lie and make shit up” moments.

Prepare to be pissed. It’s the Leafs way, especially under Chayka. His history of trades are very bad for his team.

I stand corrected for next year you are right they lost some funding for 2026-2027 BUT all the government did is go back to the prior funding before the Liberal government gave them more for 2025-2026. CBC still gets way too much money for what it provides and is far too influenced by the government with respect to it’s programming and agenda for many.

I will believe that Carney cuts it heavily when I see it.

2026-2027: ~ $1.38 billion (a decrease of $192 million from the previous year)
    2025-2026: ~ $1.58 billion
2024-2025: ~ $1.38 billion (an increase from the previous year, with federal funds accounting for roughly 70% of the total budget)
    2023-2024: ~ $1.29 billion
    2022-2023: ~ $1.24 billion

One dollar is too much. This corporation turned off all of their over-the-air transmitters and only have 13 operational on the T.V. side. That alone was a gigantic savings. Those transmitters are in the largest cities and broadcast directly to the Liberal constituents. If you take the 10 largest markets and look at who they voted for, it’s overwhelmingly Liberal. The CBC is irrelevant since they’ve stopped producing their own programming and simsub many American programs. Their biggest expenditure is News and Opinion programming. Same for their radio side. They should have to stand on their own and if they can’t make it, sell it or fold. Not one dime should go to any media outlet.

Sorry everyone, just gave my head a shake wondering why I talked about what I talked about for a bit there.

I’ll be pissed if the Leafs trade Knies. Players like him don’t come along often and he’s signed long term at a good number.
