I would Fire Tre/Burube at the end of the Season, let a New GM try and do an on the fly retool for 26-27, see how it goes. There is not point tanking next season.

I only know Leafs and Lightning, but I can say if somebody murdered a Lightning player (any of them, not just the stars), it would have been an instant Pier Six brawl. Fuck Rielly. How dickless. And how bad must Matthews must have felt when nobody stood up for him. I used to think Edmonton wasting McDavid’s prime years was a crime, but Toronto is doing the same shit with Matthews. Auston is one of best two-way centers in the league and a generational elite sniper. He’s never tasted a deep playoff run and for what? Trade the guy while he’s still worth a king’s ransom. Then get the fuck rid of Tree and whoever else in the C-suite is responsible for this ongoing chronic mess.
It’s hard to keep rooting for this team when the ownership allows this shit to continue. Ok, so they trade Matthews and burn it down. Then what? Draft more Marners and Matthews and repeat the same mistakes? This Matthews era was supposed to be age of enlightenment after so many years of mediocrity and look how it’s worked out. I don’t have much confidence that the ownership can turn this around with the culture in place (or lack of culture beyond ripping off fans).
And Jesus Christ, has anyone looked at HockeyBuzz lately? Ek somehow made it even worse. People only went there for fantasy hockey and talking shit in the forums. Nobody gives a shit about the Buzztron picks or Ek’s rumors except Ek. He’s a legend in his own mind.
Tavares seems to always get slapped by that Long Island karma. Both he, the Leafs and even the Islanders would have been better off if he just stayed put.
