ParticipantMarner’s former security guy is apparently going off on social media at anyone who has anyone negative to say about Mitch. lol
Sounds like it’s not the first time either as Steve Dangle (love him or hate him – yes many hate him) has revealed an alleged message he got back in 2021 from this same security guard.
I’m just laughing at the whole thing at this point but can’t figure out why Marner keeps agreeing to do interviews and talk about this stuff if he really wants to move on perhaps moving on from the divorce tour where he wants to paint Toronto and it’s fan base and media as the worst and why he’s gone. If he (his camp) were smart they would have stuck to the boring old “it was time to try something / somewhere new” thing and left it at that until it calmed down but they are going in the opposite direction and IMO all they are doing is tarnishing Marner’s reputation and legacy as a Leaf.
This is the link to Dangle telling the story of the message he got allegedly from Marner’s head of security (hoping it works):

Its Toronto, its Marner, he was with the leafs for 9 years. These interviews are going to happen…..he’s just not very good at giving them.
Anywho.
Moving on….lets go whatever 2nd to mostly 3rd liners we got with Marners money!
They didnt win anything with him….so it cant be too much worse.

Go Leafs Go!Good. The leafs had too many top six guys anyways and not enough character. The end. They had to give up the star that didn’t match the new coach and they did. Berube’s game is north/south skating and/or physical play, Marner is neither. Best of luck to him but he no longer fit what the team wants to do.

Another dumbass take. Berube loved Marner. If anybody didn’t fit the mold for Berube, it was Tavares and Nylander, both huge defensive liabilities who suck at back checking and can’t be trusted defensively nor kill penalties. Berube distrusted Marner so much that Marner led the team in playoff ice time among all forwards at 5v5, PK, PP and total ice time.

By all accounts, Berube loved him. Whether true or not…dunno….but he’s spoken well of him even in some podcast.
Marner fit fine with the leafs and Berube its just his game with Matthews, didnt translate well in the playoffs.
Even with Marner, the team was missing one top 6 winger….Domi isnt a full time top 6.Now…they could be missing technically “two” depending how Maccelli does. I think he will be fine in the top 6, either 1st or 2nd line….so that leaves us missing one top 6 winger. Domi still not it on a full time basis. Maybe he changes that this year….we’ll see.
Could Cowan play the 2nd line?
We’ll see.
We’re now one top 6 (outside of Domi) injury (mid to long term) away from a “Meh” line up.September 4, 2025 at 10:46 am #24818Dozzer

I don’t give a shit about what you say, he lead ice time because he was used on the PK because Berube’s didn’t have the significant depth guys he needed. Truth is Berube likes north/south hockey with physical play and Marner is neither.

ParticipantAnyways to all the Marner lovers out there please keep this in mind. Playing in Toronto is about more than talent. You need the social capability to handle it as well. Both in positive and negative manners you will be bombarded by the media, the fanbase, by haters, by lovers, by attention seekers, by people who think they know more than the people who run the team, etc etc etc… and quite frankly Marner is simply too much of a whiner to handle it. Yes, he’s a very good player, but no, he’s not a strong enough individual to handle playing for The Leafs and it always showed. Ffs I remember that he could barely handle playing for The Knights here in London, and after The Leafs drafted him I always hoped he’d grow out of it, and if he did grow a bit, it was not far enough to handle playing in Toronto. So as I’ve said, best of luck to him in his new location.

ParticipantSayonara Mitch. Don’t let the door hit you. Not much danger of that anyway though. Mitch never takes a hit.

Another dumbass take, Marner led in ice time because he was their best all around performer last season at both ends of the ice. He has consistently been a top contender for the Selke and that goes to north / south, two-way hockey players since you’re too stupid to know what you’re looking at. Marner had as many playoff hits as Knies in 2025. That’s not to say he’s as strong or as big as Knies but clearly he’s throwing more hits than guys like Tavares and Nylander whom you ignore being trash defensively and disappearing vs. Florida.
