Is there any chance that a team trying to get to the salary cap floor, takes the Ellis contract off our hands? I guess there is always a chance, but what is the likelihood? Is it too costly? Too many years left?

It’s doable but I don’t think the Flyers want to offer the sweetener(s) it’d take. Think Gostisbehere trade after he was waived with no takers and exposed (but unselected) in the Seattle expansion. I think the Flyers are gun shy since then about ridding themselves of a contract at any cost.

Guessing there’s little to no hope the Ellis contract is traded, because 1) how many teams still need to get to the floor and 2) the Carey Price contract is far more attractive (as of September 1) as a team can get a 10.5M hit vs. 800K actual salary.

Plus, as Bill already mentioned, the Flyers don’t want to give up assets to move that contract, nor would it make sense for a “rebuilding” team to do so.

A very solid assessment. I think Zegras will be able to deliver everything needed defensively and pick up his faceoff win pct. He was good down the stretch last year with 16 pts in his last 23 games and only a -1. Two terrible games where he was a combined -6 hurt that number. The .7 PPG is just under his two best scoring seasons. I’m pretty optimistic.
