    thanks
The Leafs can activate Tanev from LTIR if healthy provided the game day roster is at or below the cap ceiling.

Looks like Carlo will be in the line up for tonight game vs. the Panthers.

If Tanev is put on the LTIR, would be eligible to play in the “playoffs”?
I know the new playoffs rule is that the team need to dress players to fit under the cap.

Yup, no more over the cap BS in the playoffs.

But hoping this leafs team doesnt make the playoffs this year, trade assets at TDL and get a top pick in the draft. This team desperately needs to refill the cupboard.
Retool in the off season and go for a run next year.

With no draft pick in 2026 and 2027, this team is fucked.

They aren’t bad enough to be a lottery pick. But they should start trading everybody over 25 until they get to Matthews, Nylander and Tavares traded in 2027.

Tank in 2028. Tank 2029. Try to sign McDavid to the max deal in 2029. Make a run in 2030.

If the Leafs don’t make the playoff this year, I hope their pick is in the teens. Don’t what Boston to have a good 1st round pick curtousy of the Leafs.

Don’t what Boston to have a good 1st round pick curtousy of the Leafs.

The best way to do that is to win the Stanley Cup but we all know that ain’t happening.

Best case returns at the trade at the deadline 2026:

    Laughton – 2nd round pick
    McMann – 2nd round pick
    Maccelli – 2nd round pick
    Robertson – 2nd round pick
    Jarnkrok – 3rd round pick

    Stetcher – 2nd round pick

Best case returns at the trade at the deadline 2027:

    Roy – 1st round pick
    Domi – 2nd round pick
    Joshua – 2nd round pick

    OEL – 1st round pick
    Carlo – 1st round pick
    McCabe – 1st round pick

    Stolarz – 2nd round pick

(Maybe a few extra 1st or 2nd round picks if you sign left over veterans in the offseason to plug the gaps then trade them at the deadline)

Best case return at the 2027 draft:

Matthews – two 1st round picks, top prospect, young roster player
Nylander – 1st round pick, top prospect, young roster player
    Tavares – 1st round pick
Rielly – Another bad contract, whatever, doesn’t matter

Tank for lottery pick 2028. Try to sign McDavid in 2029 (10% chance he even considers it) otherwise, tank for lottery pick in 2029. Compete 2030.

    Normally I would agree.
But if memory serves me correctly, it is top 5 protected. So if they finish top 5 worse or their lottery ball gets moved up to top 5 they can keep their pick

Which means the 2027 pick goes to Boston and the 2028 pick goes to Philadelphia.

And if the Leafs suck balls again next year (which they will because this team is fundamentally flawed) it marches them one year closer to losing Matthews and getting nothing out of it.

They have to punt on 2026 and 2027. Tank 2028 and 2029.

Just have to get as many 1st and 2nd round picks as possible to make up for it in 2026 and 2027.

Which is actually pretty good because then you can draft all your depth players before your franchise players instead of your franchise players pulling you out of lottery picks too early which is what happened with this current (previous) core players.

Look at the western conference, the leafs won’t be top 5, if the season plays out as is they’ll be sitting around 20th overall or thereabouts.

Boston is currently drafting 13th overall and it’ll probably stay there in the mid teens area. 13th to 18th range, depending on which teams (and when) sell off players.
