ParticipantJust before the 3 p.m. roster freeze deadline, the New York Rangers dealt Artemi Panarin to the LA Kings.

ParticipantThe rangers really need to jettison Miller and Mika and start over. There is no way to replace Panarins in season production. Not sure why they feel the need to trade Braden Schneider. He is still young and has been playing in hell. Of course Drury is an idiot so Im sure we will get back a 5th rounder for him.

ParticipantWhat Drury does with the vacated cap is also a factor. I want JRob. JRob, Greentree, cond 3rd for Panarin (and whatever is needed to acquire Robertson) is easier to digest.

ParticipantPosted this in the other thread…
Lets revisit 2 trades…
Brock Nelson, locked up NTC (no team submission), netted the Isles Calum Ritchie, Oliver Kylington, a conditional 1st and a conditional 3rd.
Claude Giroux, NMC (Florida was his choice and it wasnt a secret) the Flyers got Owen Tippett, a 1st and a 3rd. Heck, the Panthers didnt even intend on resigning Giroux, they gave that up for a straight up rental.Panarin is essentially the same age as those 2 when the trades occurred, and theres no debate that hes the better player between the 2.
So to not get, at the very least, a conditional 1st of some sort (or a conditional 2nd that could be a 1st) and a 3rd as the kicker to Greentree is not good.
What Drury should do with the vacated cap… assuming Trocheck, Schneider, Raddysh, Carrick are moved… is he should monetize it by taking other teams bad contracts, for example, get MTL to pay a 2nd to take on Laine. Get EDM to give us something to take on Mangiapane. Maybe Tampa wants to unload Bjorkstrand. This is where we should be.

Im with you here, key word is overpay. For example, trading Schneider to the Sharks for EDM’s 1st round pick. Other options being if the Sharks want to send Musty or Bystedt for Schneider, I think those are solid options too.

ParticipantIt will be 5 years before we sniff the playoffs again.. and if the GM in this case stands for (General Mismanager) is still here it could be much longer!
You think Yzerman trades a stud winger for a prospect and a 3rd conditional..No way! Imagine in a few years the Bruins trading Pastrnak away for this return even if he also has a NMC. Bruin fans would be out of their mind!
Again Drury created this mess by A – telling the league he wasn’t going to resign him B- Benching the player C just causing all this chaos that never needed to be. He could have waited to the real deadline not said anything try to smooth over the relationship with the players and not created this unnecessary situation. -

Absolutely not. However as I said in the previous thread… even if they dont fire Drury, as long as they fire Ortmeyer and Glass Ill feel like management recognizes the egregious issues that exist in player development on this team.

ParticipantOrtmeyer , Tanner Glass..talk about world class skill. What could go wrong with them evaluating talent. I think that’s why fans don’t trust the organization, it’s like how many awful moves that completely backfire do you get? There is no accountability within the organization. Nobody loses their job ..hell Lafreniere gives the puck away every game softly skates back into the zone doesn’t pick up his guy and Boom it’s in the back of the net. What happens? NOTHiNG! Doesn’t miss a shift doesn’t get benched. It’s the Ranger way..

Actually one could argue that people do lose their job…
Coaches:
Quinn, fired. Gallant, fired. Laviolette, fired. Sullivan,…Management:
Gorton, Fired. Davidson, fired.Leadership:
Trouba, traded. Kreider, traded. Goodrow, traded. Panarin, traded. However…

ParticipantI was talking more of this current iteration of the team. But yeah I get it. Drury does seem to fire a lot of people yet keep his job.
Also interesting is the fact that the supposed mutiny on Drury last year started with Panarin ..involving Trouba, Kreider. Notice who are all gone. Guess we should brush up more on the amateurs and draft at least the next 3 years anyway. There’s no easy retool. Not with this group. It was funny when the trade came through I kept refreshing the page to see what other pieces we got. I’m like must be our WI-FI conking out because I only see Greentree and a 3rd.

I kept thinking the same thing about the trade… Im sitting here posting… just wait Im sure this is just the early call on the trade, Im sure more is coming… nope.
Well, one more year after this, Miller has a 15 team no-trade and we can get out from that. Fox becomes a 15 team no-trade the same year.

ParticipantUnfortunately this is how I expect the games to go in the near future.
Without Panarin driving the play up the ice and the non existent transition game from our very slow and average D. Expect low scoring games. Hell they were putrid with him somehow.
Btw interesting Panarin now saying the Rangers never really offered him a new contract upon him speaking in LA. Belief is he wanted Kings or even go back to Russia. Not sure I believe that. -

Not sure I believe that.I dont believe anything anyone is saying when it comes to this trade. There was absolutely NO WAY Panarin was going back to Russia after he had to smuggle his family out of the country because of his political affiliations.
Just gonna deal with it and hope it gets better from here on.
This is a full blown tank, and honestly I hope we get the 2nd overall pick. This way its not on our GM to make the choice between McKenna and Stenberg.

Please get a haul for Trocheck. But I’m not holding my breath. Need to have at least 3 #1 and 2 top prospects before deadline. Already have the 2 #1 and one prospect. Not asking for much… -

If we can get Stramel from Wild, hes a solid C prospect with potential to be a solid 2C… and if we can get McKenna or Stenberg in the draft… would be a solid start here. If Schneider gets moved, I have a hunch someone will overpay for him. Throw in Gabe and Laba. We dont have much on D though.

Between Drury and JT man I’ve never been more confident that we are screwed for the foreseeable future.Trading for JTs contract and subsequently making him captain might be the worst thing this franchise as ever done – and there’s a lot to choose from. Guy totally screamed captain material with his post game interviews.

Were getting the tank we wanted, however… Miller, wow. Just gets worse and worse.
Just need to hope and pray we can get one of the top 2 picks. Need to hope and pray we get a massive haul for Trocheck.
We can hope for a miracle that Mika wants out of this and doesnt want to play the rest of his career on a tanking franchise. The way hes playing right now, people might be ringing his agent. Throw a little retention on that contract, could be a valuable asset. Let me live my pipedream.

Almost feel a bit dirty rooting for USA with Quinn, Sully, ( he has already checked out) and Mr Incompetent leading the charge. If your getting rid of Panarin and Tro .. what does it matter get rid of all of them. There is literally no skater that’s irreplaceable. Even though I like Cuylle and Laba.. Robertson has much improved too. Nobody is untouchable.

I was a huge Robertson fan when we got him, with hopes that he and Schneider were the future pair of our defense behind whoever Fox was paired with… which is now Gavrikov. In all honesty, our D, is not really that far off.
However the cumulative effect of poor management, poor coaching and poor leadership has really torn this team to shreds. Sure Fox and Shesty getting hurt is a big loss, however, personally I feel it was a blessing in disguise. I feel like if Fox and Shesty didnt get hurt, Drury would still be making moves to try to salvage the season and make the playoffs.

ParticipantI watched an interview with Rupper about Jason Robertson. He was talking about the Rangers trading for him. Rupper made a good point. JRob is a RFA now and then a UFA soon, why would he want to play for a coach and GM who didnt take him on Team USA for the Olympics? Yes he would have to report but not have to resign here. Interesting point.

ParticipantYeah good point about JRob..although I believe Guerin has final say. Usually lots of cash tends to sway players. But I think there is too much stain on the last 2 years here. Players talk about that stuff all the time. Panarin chose LA because of what Gavrikov told him. Could you imagine what players are thinking when they see Drury on Team USA? Oh isn’t he the GM of the one of the most disappointing teams in the league and your team no longer competes especially at home? Having Sully there isn’t a good look either and forget Quinn 🙂 Just remember Drury drove the Hartford Wolf Pack into the abyss for 4 years before coming here.
I still can’t fathom Drury not asking for at least a second rd pick since we don’t have one for 2 years! You think Kings would have hung up the phone being on the cusp of acquiring the Rangers leading scorer last 7 seasons! Just seems like that’s something he should have inquired about. ( spoiler alert Kings are average even with Bread and don’t see them winning a round so forget about better compensation from that deal) -

ParticipantRangers should be in on all trash contract players other teams are trying to free themselves of.
As far as LAF goes… unless someone is willing to overpay, thinks the Rangers are holding him back and believes he can be more than a 50pt player, I would be in no rush to move him yet. He may not be the generational 1st overall pick that people thought he could be, however… hes still a middle 6 mainstay, who plays 80 games a year, who can contribute and who can play with a physical edge.
Look at the haul Kraken got for Bjorkstand and Gourde, two 1sts and a 2nd. Im not saying were gonna get some crazy haul like that, but to say that LAF isnt worth a late 1st I think is a bit of a stretch. The issue will always be that he went 1st overall. If LAF was drafted anywhere after the 5th pick, no one would say a thing.

ParticipantHere is a good example of how stupid the Drury is a genius comment is.
Since taking over before the 2021 draft, Drury has brought in John Lilley as director of player personnel and amateur scouting while replacing multiple scouts and coaches, but he’s kept Jed Ortmeyer as director of player development and Tanner Glass as Ortmeyer’s top assistant.
The results haven’t improved. Of 31 picks made across five drafts with Drury at the helm, no selection has played more games (48) or produced more points (14) than 2022 fourth-round center Noah Laba.
What a winner!!!

ParticipantDid anyone read the Hockey News article about how the Rangers mistreat their prospects? The organization basically puts a muzzle on prospects and is controlling of their players. In fact, Ken Campbell lead writer for THN had contacted OHL’s Windsor Spit Fires about the deal for Liam Greentree after the trade and appparently the Rangers have a gag order and forbid them from talking to the kid about the Panarin trade? Campbell said they are the only organization in the NHL that does this and control their prospects to a detriment.
Campbell said “ No wonder they are 3rd to last place in the league”.The fact that Robertson and Caulfield are not on the team for the sullen JT Miller is a testament how the US mismanagement of their roster continues.
Olympic Roster fodder:Jason Robertson 32g 66 points plus/minus 20
Cole Caulfield 32g 57 points plus minus 19
JT Miller 14g 37 points plus minus -22

He drives to the net which Kempe and Panarin are more perimeter although Kempe is really solid everywhere. So yeah we had an opportunity but our General Mismanager frittered it away. I’m so sick of the way this organization does things. Haven’t seen an article yet saying the Panarin deal was good for the Rangers. But hey Panarin had him over a barrel. That Drury gave him access to.
