ParticipantThis team isnt better. The only way it would be is if the prospects produce otherwise we just went sideways.

ParticipantI think you hit this spot on.. NYR 9479.. I’m not a fan of Drury by any stretch of the imagination and it’s moves like this is the reason why..
All we heard from people on this board when I went berserk ( rightfully so :)when Panarin got dealt for not enough in my opinion ( Greentree ok) but no first rounder ..all the speculation was when Drury trades Trocheck he will get a haul with first rd picks coming back said the hockey insiders..Friedman, Kaplan , etc. all said Trocheck had term which meant his value was sky high.. then you see the trade and it’s like ehh ok Durzi is for sure better than had anyone we had on the second pairing and Cole Boudoin is a nice get although not even a top 3 prospect in their organization.. ( especially when he profiles as bottom 6 forward) .
Here in lies the problem with Drury he gives away first rd picks like candy. He never seems to have a plan ..I mean it’s like he’s never negotiated anything in his life.. So you mean to tell me we gave up a 4th rd pick for a goalie who was garbage last year in Koorpisalo, then he trades a 2030 first rd pick for a again a slight upgrade ( who had his worst year of his career ) I know it was with Vancouver but in what world does acquiring Marcus Petterson require a first rd pick as compensation? So we had to give up a first rd pick I guess a 3rd pick in say 2029 wouldn’t do it?Yet we trade cornerstone players like Kreider and Panarin and fetch a 3rd pick ? Then Trocheck who has 3 years left on his contract and is a top C available only gets a 3rd round pick back along with a decent defenseman and potentially good prospect back. Our GM just doesn’t care about draft capital and these moves while different aren’t necessarily making the team better.. You don’t remove Trocheck from your lineup not replace him and get better? Yes we have improved on the defensive side but our forward depth is awful and the fact that we gave up 3 first rd picks this offseason is a lot to stomach. God help us if we stink in 2 years which is a distinct possibility with no first rd picks at present time for 2028 and 2030.July 2, 2026 at 10:47 am #76860nyrangers9479
ParticipantI don’t like gambling with 1st round picks years from now.
Foolish move that could come back to absolutely kill us.
In 2030 Zib and Milled will be 37 years old (if they’re even still here), Fox will be in his 30’s and we don’t have a deep prospect pool. Why on earth would you send a 1st round pick with so much uncertainty surrounding this team for a middle pair dman. Foolish and dumb.
It screams of desperation from someone trying to save their own job and could care less about the future of this team. Because if those picks do come back to hurt us, Drury certainly won’t be the GM at that point so what does he care. Foolish and dumb is an understatement.
The return on Trocheck, eh. Durzi is a big injury concern last 2 seasons and the 3rd round pick is a joke. I like the prospect, but he failed to hit a home run on this one also.
Dumping Borgen for a 2nd and 3rd is a solid move but then Korpisalo is a head scratcher.
These moves seem like moves just to make moves rather than a plan.
The dorofeyev trade is fine, but I worry about that pick in 2028/2029 for the same reasons I don’t like the Pettersson trade.

ParticipantThanks for the great write up Jan. They are a better and younger team, but not really sure that they are a good team. There are a lot of ifs with this roster.

ParticipantThe New York Rangers entered free agency as an unknown. Would GM Chris Drury retool or rebuild? Was the plan to deal Vincent Trocheck and Braden Schne
