ParticipantI’m big on drafting offensive talent and developing them and acquiring via trade or free agency your defensive talent. Let’s take a look at the Flyers today:
Your four lines:
Tippett-Couturier-Konecny
Foerster-Cates-Michkov
Open-Open-Open
Open-Poehling-HathawayGuys who got in quite a few games in 24-25:
Brink-Pelletier-Lycksell-Abols-Richard-DeslauriersProspects who should get at least a few games:
#6-Luchanko-Bump-BarkeyThat’s not a whole lot, but if they shore up the D and goaltending, it might be enough for an entertaining if not competitive team. Is there enough in the budget for a UFA forward, even a depth guy? I do see a lot of opportunity for any guy to surprise and really step up. I’m fine with staying the course up front. Hate away on this!

Participantwhat a shitty lineup and roster this flyers team have assembled.
if he isn’t traded, brink is a lock for a roster spot. as he should be, not even in question. one of the few I actually like.
that is not entertaining at all. why would they want to add a depth guy? do they not have enough of those? 1 year deal suppose wont hurt anything.

Yes, it’s not pretty. Hahahaha! I am willing to stick with the draft build up front and we won’t see much from that this year. Brink is the best of the bunch after the Top 6, but I would hope the Flyers develop past him unless he has more upside than I saw last year. To me, the earlier effort at drafting D with the first pick (Provorov, Sanheim, York yet passing on Makar!) was sort of ass backwards and I actually like the way the Flyers are set up to move forward. Draft those forwards. They contribute sooner and if you develop a stockpile, you have an asset to acquire plug-and-play D help. This year will still be tough even if they do make a few shrewd moves.

The Farrabee-Frost roster spot/cap dump might not have been shrewd but it does indicate they have some direction. We’ll see how they go about filling those spots.

Unfortunately, we’ve been saying “we’ll see” about Flyers offseasons for far too long now.
I’ve been a fan for a long time (old enough to remember the SC wins as a kid), and have never seen this franchise as directionless as they’ve been for the past decade or so.

ParticipantLeBrun says the Pens are the only bottom-feeder currently selling… the rest are trying to add lol.
So Flyers trying to “improve” while the Pens are making plans to tank for McKenna…

I like where the Flyers are better than PGH. Unless the Pens are willing to sell Crosby, Malkin, Letang or Karlsson they’ll be bad but too good to finish at the absolute bottom. They don’t have a whole lot else to sell. Rust or Rakell? They could be Top 9 guys in a lot of places. I can actually see a path for the Flyers. Whether they follow it or not . . . WE WILL SEE! Hahahahaha!

Participant“Sources confirmed to Kurz that the Flyers will not be in the market for big-name free agents come July 1. While general manager Daniel Briere and the front office have nearly $19MM in cap space (per PuckPedia), they seem content to continue to resign their own younger players. Excluding non-roster players, the Philadelphia Flyers have two restricted free agents remaining—York and winger Jakob Pelletier—and no unrestricted free agents. It appears the Flyers are opting to retain a roster similar to last season’s, with Tocchet and his coaching staff aiming to maximize player performance and development.”

They do have the cap space for the UFAs I think they need (Top 4 D and goalie) and, again, I’m fine with them staying the course on building the forwards through the draft.

Tippett-Couturier-Konecny
Foerster-Cates-Michkov
Open-Zegras-Open
Open-Open-HathawayZegras seems to have played pretty well in March and April for ANA so that’s not a bad sign as the Flyers hope he regains form and develops past even that. The Flyers are taking $3.85M off their cap space which, after York deal, might leave them with 9-10M to get UFA help. Could be enough to get a goalie (Allen?) and a Top 4 D-man in UFA. Still, it’s open season for Flyers forwards looking for opportunity

Open-Open-Hathawayi could see them running back Brink-Cates-Forester and trying a Shabanov-Zegras-Michkov line, keeping your first line intact. then it would be your pick of guys for the 4th line.
since Zegras is buddies with Drysdale and York I hope this helps in keeping York. Not ready to move on from him.

They still need more man games to fill those slots even if Brink and Shabanov both play all 82. Briere has stripped the team of guys who can win faceoffs though. Frost, Laughton and Poehling were fine on the draw. Should be fun to watch.
