ParticipantBundy is back with his new Therien’s Take. After Friday’s events, Chris says he immediately sees one huge difference in the atmosphere.

ParticipantDoes Mark Recchi have a REAL shot being the power play coach? I was excited when Bundy mentioned him as a rumored candidate. First of all, there’s nowhere to go but up. And unlike Rocky, Rex has lots and lots of PP experience. And Cup rings.

ParticipantThe thing about Torts is that he seemed to thrive on conflict for conflict’s sake. Things can get pretty toxic pretty fast in an environment like that. Especially when other players don’t feel like their team mate is being treated fairly. I guess its a way to unite the room in a common fight, in this case, against the coach. But why would you want to hate your coach? Your leader? Why would you as a coach want your team to hate you or fear you? Respect can be earned through mutual respect. And IMO and experience its the better kind of respect.

ParticipantTherians biased view is already getting old. I bet if you go back and look at the last 3 press conf for AV, Torts, Tocchet they re virtually identical as to what was said by the flyers and the pres.
Bill we need some conversation, so:
– do you see the flyers pursuing Howard from Tampa assuming he would sign? flyers have the assets to get a deal done. What would you give up for him? Oilers 1st and a 3rd (assuming tampa wants picks? Would you move Barkey (plus a pick) for him?
– when Briere said he had agents calling and talking him (well wouldn’t that be tampering if talking about current players?) was he possibly referring to the agent of Cutter and Buium? IMO torts being the coach was a factor in Cutter not wanting to play here. Then it had a trickle down effect. Any thoughts on that?
– what goalie do you see them pursuing?
– what free agents do you see them going after and actually signing.
– does the Ellis contract have any real trade value?
– this tocchet will draw free agents is also funny. I get it from the flyers end as they have to sell something.

He probably said the same things about Torts when he was hired. I’d like Bundy back on the Flyers broadcast. He was good doing color. I’m not crazy about his current hot takes persona.

ParticipantNo. Chris did not like TOrtorella from the get-go. Didn’t want him as the coach, and gave it two seasons before he effectively lost the room (and it proved right).

ParticipantYes, I think they have interest in ISaac.
I would not be shocked, especially with the Vancouver connection and one year til UFA status, if the Flyers gambled on trying to acquire Thatcher Demko. If not, I could easily see them signing Jake Allen.
The only value of Ellis’ contract is for teams that need to reach the cap floor and if the Flyers eat half of it plus add something.

Thanks. Seeing the direction the flyers want to go will you be surprised if they go hard after Tavares or Duchesne if they make to to free agency. These guys will have many other options though the flyers can overpay them on say a 3/4 year deal.
question is how much money it would take as both I assume want to chase a cup.
Does Demko have a NTC? Hypothetically what do you think it would take? Would they want Ersson as a backup as obviously flyers have to add.

ParticipantDemko does not have a NMC. I think the biggest thing, other than the obvious injury risk on a goalie with a high cap hit, is that you’ll probably have to absorb all of it with no retention. But’s a UFA next summer, so it’s not a long-term commitment.

Participanttaking on the full hit as you said is fine as no long term commitment.
What do you think the return going to Vancouver would be.
As for Allen what type of term do you think he would require? 3 years at 4 per?
May 18, 2025 at 12:13 pm #5610Bill Meltzer
ParticipantSounds about right for the market on Allen

ParticipantBill Flyers have any interest in any current Euro players? Or former NHL players in Europe?
May 18, 2025 at 12:19 pm #5612Bill Meltzer
ParticipantIt’s been very quiet so far as relates to European players. Last year, there were some hints related to Abols and Eklind. This year, not so much.
