ParticipantKinda makes sense for the Isle to trade Dobson. Not only is he just shy of 10 million a year, they likely aren’t really in contention during the first few years AND they drafted Schafer.
Also, a run on centers at the draft in the first round. 8 picks and 6 are centers.

ParticipantNot expecting much from the Leafs this weekend. Sure, they might do something with the bottom 6, but nothing spectacular. Hopefully, they can get a team to bite on Marner’s rights, so we actually get a return on this wanker. JT’s signing is OK, although I was hoping that they could have acquired a good defensive Centre, with a 20 goal pedigree that could have pushed JT to the 3rd Centre position. Maybe it’s too soon to tell, but there is a hole that needs filling at the 3C position. I imagine when Marner walks, they’ll look at someone like Ehlers to play in the top 6. I was hoping for Boezer but the price may be too high.
I didn’t see any UFA 2nd line centers so I’ll take JT. The good news maybe it’s a trade for like Robertson,Minten or something and JT can slide to the wing/3rd. I like his new salary for when he does begin to slide. It won’t be an anchor.
JT still put up 38 goals last year. Not saying he does the same but he was definitely a 2nd line center in the NHL.

Im hoping for Ekblad if available or Nate Schmidt/provorov, along with Tanev, P suter and P Kane (if he doesnt sign in Detroit). Ekblad would be our number 1 Dman and push Morgan down to 3rd line, our D would be great.

ParticipantTwo quick observations:
– Tavares on the open market would have received over $7M easy. In fact, some dumb GM would have probably given him $8M. He took a huge paycut to stay in Toronto.
– Montreal is a fantastic place to sit on a patio and watch the pretty ladies walk by. The talent level in this town is much higher than their hockey team.
It is. Lots of beautiful ladies in Montreal.
The same could be said of Toronto and Ottawa as wellJune 27, 2025 at 6:16 pm #12534Fakepartofme
ParticipantBennett signs 8 x 8

ParticipantIf the Leafs had traded 2 x top 20 1st round pics & that player for Dobson with the extension you just know many Leaf fans and for sure non-leaf fans would be screaming it was an overpayment! I actually think this one is a bit of a wash right now and both teams feel like they won.
cough**the Kessel trade**cough….
that what that trade makes me think of somewhat.
Except the leafs werent close to being a playoff team and those picks were unprotected.

LOL, it very much is. I go there often, but I am always amazed at the female gene pool they have going on over there.

I feel like it COULD be similar to Phaneuf. In that he had a really high ceiling in his first few years then tapered off to just a “good” D-man. I hope it doesn’t but that’s kind of where my mind went on this trade. Wouldn’t be the first time a young d-man got traded and kind of slid in his career.
BJ’s getting a couple centers the last couple days. Just depth.
JT signing is DNA change. He could have got 7 million on the open market but he wants to win in his hometown. He took a real discount. Show Knies if he wants to be here then to take what’s offered and win.
I keep hearing via media how “depth” is the reason Florida won the cup but it seems glossed over that the reason they had depth was because they had 9 million on LTIR before the playoffs so they could acquire the depth. Where are the panthers without Jones/Marchand? Leafs are way closer than we think as fans if this is the benchmark.
Yeah I get Florida, TB and Vegas all abused this rule in the CBA and anyone can use it, okay that’s fine but it’s being closed because why have all these “winners” win only because they cheated? The habs got a number 1, hes pretty great. Imo
But i hope you are right in that i hope he turns into a phaneuf. The habs need a phaneufI actually believe the panthers were $19m over the cap.
What a joke. Why didnt the leafs do that?

ParticipantIt’s pretty sweet here on Salt Spring. The place is gorgeous and quite chill. Half the population looks like they came straight here from Woodstock. Not many restaurants but lots of nice food trucks. Winter was pretty quiet but the place is jumping now. We’ve got a great view looking across to Vancouver Island and there are trails just across the street for the pup.
I’ve started golfing at sweet nine hole course 5 minutes away.
Not being able to get a family doctor sucks.
