ParticipantThere’s speculation that new CBA will ban deferred salary which will make signing FA’s tougher for Leafs in future

ParticipantSo how long before Peterka lifts the Cup with the Mammoth or scores 90 points or something like all the other young Sabres jettisoned for peanuts?

With word that in new CBA contracts will be limited to 7 years to re-sign or 6 years w/ new team, there’s a big choice for ‘26 free agents:Sign 8 years with their current team from July 1 until next June 30, otherwise they can only sign for 6 years if they go to market July 1

To answer your ? as to why – it’s the Oilers! The same Oilers who thought Soupy was the solution to their goaltending woes….I could totally see them going after either of those guys (Gibson or Swayman) to be honest. Not sure what other options are out there and available – maybe they can get Vancouver to trade them Demko since they have Lankinen and Silovs as well.Demko will be going into his final year of his current deal at 5M.
Demko could be an option…not sure Vancity would want him in Edmonton though…but who knows.
I could see the oilers going after Jake allen…..maybe a on a 3 year deal.
As for Gibson….unless the oilers are sending back a bad contract…I dont see them taking on Gibson at full contract.
But we’ll see.June 26, 2025 at 10:19 am #11894Fakepartofme

cause they need a goalie and I think the only way for the Oilers to get one is to trade for one.
Those were some names that were mentioned. The other was the Utah goalie.A trade is definitely an option, or they could sign Jake Allen or someone via FA. Maybe Allen on a 3 year x $4.5 – 5m deal and trade one of their current goalies.

ParticipantWhy would the oilers be interested in either? Gibson sucks, swayman is ok but too expensive.
Besides, Im sure there would be cap retention unless the oilers are unloading a contract of their own the other way.cause they need a goalie and I think the only way for the Oilers to get one is to trade for one.

ParticipantSwayman would be a good move for Edmonton if he was available. But i dont know why Boston would move him now after just signing him
