I was just reading a mock trade proposition for the Leafs and Vegas ….
Carlo for Karlsson, a 1 for 1 trade.
I say no way jose.
Leafs will need their Dmen after Rielly is traded. eh!!!ps. I don’t think Rielly will be traded anytime soon.
Would have loved to do Rielly for Karlsson 1 for 1, maybe have the Pens take Jamrock and or Kampf along with it if possible. Karlsson would do nothing at all to help defensively (we have enough defense first dmen) but he may still have a bit left in him to be the powerplay defenseman we’ve been missing for years. I like Carlo, I’d keep him. Many teams who make deep cup runs have quite a lot of big bodies on defense. But the whole point is moot as Rielly won’t waive his trade clause but I’d rather Karlsson for more money but much less term than Rielly.
….I’m a bit tipsy waiting for my transfer to the airport to get home from Varadeo. Its been a long 16 days cant wait to get back to normal food. I thought you meant Karlsson from Pitts ????????????
We should have PTO`d Lucic in retrospect. Big, mean, tough and a proven winner. The guys could have learned a lot from his leadership and character.
Probably going to overpay Roslowvic now ffs.
I thought the same at first. Then remembered he was god awful the last season he played and likely won’t be much better having been out of the league for a couple years since. He would just be replacing Reaves, an older guy, best years behind him, too slow for the game. Id rather just play Pezzeta dude who may not bring much offensively, but can bring toughness and at least keep up with the pace of the game. We surely dont need both him and Lucic, and let’s be fair..Lucic hasn’t proven anything in a long time. The idea of Lucic is really appealing but with our aging roster we need more 20 year old players than we do guys 30, pushing 40.

Leafs can’t afford to lose more RHD when they already are short a RHD.
Carlo is overrated. He doesn’t use his size and defensively isn’t nearly as good as he was in Boston. But he’s still a RHD and the Leafs need him more than they need another soft winger who had 9 goals and less than 30 points last year. Karlsson, at 32, has peaked. Not worth it for the Leafs as they already have a bad habit of bringing in has beens.

I’d give him a PTO too because there’s nothing to lose and no risk but Lucic has been a pylon for a long time. Since he left Boston, he’s been useless in the playoffs and basically a 4th liner since 2018.
Don’t think the Leafs missed much on that one.

Carlo is really our only mid- high quality Dman under 30. Cant trade him.
I was hoping Karlsson would have been dumped to us for Marner.
But we cant trade out a quality Dman while still having morgan on the team
Our D is getting pretty old.

Key weaknesses:
Rielly. Defensively, he’s useless and offensively he’s not nearly worth the money anymore even though he’s the Leafs #1 offensive producer from D-men.
Tavares days as a center are numbered. His FOs are still strong but his defensive game absolutely sucks. Leafs would also be better off with him on the LW.
Bottom-six centers suck at FOs. Roy is not a good center, he’s a better winger. Same goes for Laughton. Leafs would be much stronger with both of them on the wing.
No 3rd RHD. Leafs keep getting burned by having to play a LHD on the right side.
Kampf and Jarnkrok still being on this team. Both suck in the playoffs, both are overpaid and both are soft. They need to go and that extra money needs to be better used.Don’t think this team can beat Tampa Bay much less Florida without major upgrades to their many weaknesses.
