So. What do they need to add to Robertson in a deal for Rickard Rakell? Kampf for salary, Hildeby and the first 2028? Not sure they have the assets for it without giving up Cowan which would likely be a mistake.

The Penguins are not trading their #1 goal scorer before the season starts with Crosby still on the team. If the Penguins really suck and blow it up at the deadline, then it might happen. But it’s not going to happen now.

And they’d need to add A LOT more than Robertson to make that happen. Probably Cowan and/or a 1st round pick, neither of which the Leafs can afford to trade for a poor man’s version of Nylander with bad playoff stats to boot.

    It’s not happening.

Robertson for Tomasino could happen. That’d be an upgrade for the Leafs. Otherwise, it’s a dream.

    And UG trashes this opinion…

Season will be decided by the goaltending. If Stolarz is still statistically the second best performing goalie behind Hellebuyck and Woll is healthy and good, they’ll be a strong team again. Maybe not division winners, but there’s no clear regular season* favourites for the Atlantic.

Stolarz (career high 34 games) has never played a full season (50-60 games) and neither has Woll (career high 42 games). They have two capable back-ups, a 1A and 1B situation but both have injury concerns. If that’s what determines the Leafs success, it’s more of a gamble than a sure thing. Case in point, Stolarz got hurt twice last year, Matt Murray ended up playing in the playoffs which is exactly why the Leafs are planning to bring in Reimer to be the Marlies goalie / 3rd stringer on a PTO. They know their goaltending can go from hero to zero very, very fast.

And to the people who think “well Bennett knocked out Stolarz on purpose blah blah blah” is the only reason he got hurt, if your logic is correct, they will do it again and the Leafs will be right back where they were last year.

The Panthers are clearly the favorites both regular season and playoffs. Their team is basically the same. The only reason they won’t threepeat is if Bob acts his age or if they get ravaged by injuries.

Tampa Bay still has Hedman, Kucherov, Point, Guentzel, Hagel and Vasilevskiy so with that much MVP power, they’re not done being a threat either.

Don’t think you can get a 5mil consistent 20g 50p type guy with another year on his deal after coming off a career year for anything less.

I would wait, esp dealing another 1st. See how the team plays to start the season. Unless some great deal fell into their lap.
The should have more cap space than they ever have. Another top 6 forward is prob the need. but other needs might pop up half way into the season

1st round picks should be off limits going forward. This Leafs team could be thrown into a full rebuild really fast and the last thing they need is another Kessel situation where they have a lottery team and no draft pick.

Maybe he’s here house shopping. Shanny’s place is on the market. (And by here, I mean there.)

At this point, I’m happy for the Leafs to wait to make any more moves. They have a bit of cap space, they have some players that should be fairly easy to move out if needed, save as much capital for the trade deadline as possible. If you move out Kampf, Jarny, Robertson, and picks to get a player that doesn’t pan out, you’ve handcuffed yourself at the TDL. Keep as much flexibility as possible.

Is this team, as constructed, going to win the division? Almost certainly, no. Is this team one, maybe two TDL moves away from being a real problem in the playoffs? I think so.

Sometimes, the blogs would be pretty decent. Meltzer comes to mind. Even Engels had his moments. The rest of them regurgitated stuff, were there to practice writing, or were just trolls.

Not once do I ever recall going to Hockeybuzz for news or for an “insider” opinion. It was 100% about the forums.

Jeepers creepers, I can’t believe I’m defending Ek and his stable of bloggers, but here goes:

Hockeybuzz was a stepping stone for more than a few bloggers to go on to respectable writing gigs.

I don’t think the Leafs should give a 1st for Rakell. For me at most, is 2nd depending who is being moved.
