They set a record for most games played in a 3 year span.
They could become tired. Complacent. Injured. Bob is 37. If the Leafs made the right choices, they could take advantage of all those factors.

Yes, they had the golden opportunity in game three and chance to win the series, but they blown it.

Well if Florida could play better, so could the Leafs. It goes both ways. The Leafs won the first two games because they played confident and executed on the PP.
This team is taking a huge step back and won’t have what it takes to take steps forward. UFAs won’t save them. They never have before, they probably never will.

I remember the first two games, Bob let in all pucks were directed to net.
The Leafs could play better in game 5 and 7, but I doubt result would be different.
The next year the gap between these two team will be get even bigger, I agree with this.
For Leafs it is not enough to get better, but they need Florida become worse, which may not happen to my sorry.

Well players are paid game by game so it’s not a full difference like that, Leaf players only get paid 43 games in Ontario for instance and they aren’t high income earners anywhere else. Also, a notable difference for players on the leafs is they get a notable additional income for marketing which we get zero info about.

There are multiple factors why players may take less money and no state tax is the only one of them.

If they played better defense in Game 3 (which is what you get if you remove Tavares and Rielly and replace them with two-way 2C and 3C) they can win that game and the series.
They won 3 games. No matter how you want to describe it, they were closer than anybody else. And now they just blew it away.

Yes, I can agree with this, but if Florida played better in the first two games the result can be different either.
There is a huge difference between to take team to game 7 and win the series, but Leafs had the chance in game 3 and they blew it.
It is possible they could win the whole series if it did not happen, but not guaranteed of course, knowing how Florida playing in elimination games.

Wrong. Panthers are going to be the same and the Leafs took them to 7

Even the Leafs took them to game seven does not means they been almost as good as Panthers.
It is not for the first time the Leafs taking teams to game 7, but outcome is always the same.

He’s WAY more likely to get run out of Vegas than he is to raise a cup there. Better make sure his NMC is rock solid.

Still don’t believe Vegas is going to pay him the money he wants.
They are heavy team and I doubt they are interested in very skilled, but soft player.
I think SJ is more realistic place for Mitch.

I would live Marchand on a Tavares type deal but I do not want him at $8 mil

He was super motivated playing for Florida and it is not a fact he will have the same compete level
next season, regardless of who is going to play with.
He will cost big dollars to some team, hopefully not to Leafs.

Yes, so far he is almost in the same category, but I still have some hopes for him,
    because of injures.
He is the Leafs first line center, without him this team has no chance to compete.

    Yep. Both weak sauce

One overpaid in Toronto, the other one will be overpaid somewhere else.
    Both are not playoffs material.

This is why they need to be aggressive and trade for their future players right now. Go get Jenner and McBain today so they can be your playoff warriors of tomorrow. Don’t waste money on 35+ year old losers or deadline overpayment.

I hope so. They have to make smart decisions. We will see how good the current management is and
what they will be able to do.

I agree, the Leafs had some bad games. But they were also 1 OT goal away in Game 3 from being up 3-0. They had breakaways in OT and didn’t seal the deal.

I think Bob at 37+, will be a disadvantage for Florida that the Leafs can overcome if they keep this team together and try again with the guys under 30 and add the right grit.

What bother me is how the team can add Marchandt, Schmidt and Johnes without spending a lot of assets.
Leafs have no picks and the pretty much the only way to improve is through overpaying in free agency.
Toronto is not preferable destination for free agents, especially when they have not much money to spend on it.
And I don’t think the Leafs had bad game 5 and 7, but rather Florida had their A game.

I disagree. Leafs won 3 games and you can’t take that away from them. They’re as close as anybody. Definitely needs improvement but that team is closer than anybody so far.

Leafs won 3 games and it is a fact.
Leafs blown game 5 and 7 is a fact.
Leafs lost it when it most needed and it also the fact.
Panthers had very weak game one and two, especially Bobrovky and it also fact.
Not taking anything from Leafs, but Panthers on whole another level in playoffs and fact
that it was 7 games series does not change a lot.

I bet Edmonton trades McDavid and signs Bennett.
Because that’s apparently what the Leafs need to do.

There is no such move the Leafs or Oilers can make to have the team, which can beat
    Florida in 7 game series.
