I think EDM really hurt his stock with his play in the preseason and start of the year. The spot was his to take and they ended up going with the PTO for Grezlcyk. He seems to have bounced back decently in the AHL which is promising.

Just preseason and he also had a new system to learn. Not everyone is a quick learner but I will say I’d prefer EDM than Murph rn on the Hawks roster. Love Murph but he simply can’t keep up and is a liability on the ice. He’s already -3 in sheltered mins and next closest is Vlasic at -1 but he plays 5 mins more per game lol.

I can’t wait for EDM and Moore to graduate to the NHL, they’ll be upgrades to some on the current roster. For those that watch Rockford, how is EDM looking?

I would also add Allan to the graduation list as I really think he’s ready to be an NHL stay-at home rearguard but he’s unfortunately tasked with being KK’s partner. Hawks need a shutdown pairing and honestly don’t have one right now. I hope to be able to catch more Rockford games going forward and would love to hear any player analysis from those that have watched at least a few of the games.
On the outside looking in, Hogs are +5 in 7 games and EDM is +7 with 3 pts (3 helpers) in 7 games leading all blueliners and staying out of the box thus far. Meanwhile, KK +3 in 6 games with 4 pts and Allan +2 in 5 games with 1 pt. Both had concussions and both can’t seem to stay out of the box.

I need someone else to post the question to The Athletic’s Powers, since they banned me from posting there.

Why did they ban you Wiz?!

Nice article Coach. Kaiser’s development has been a pleasant surprise. He’s still young, but he has matured his game so well for the last 2 years. He’s a gritty guy who’s not afraid to mix it up along the boards, and his decision making is quick and his agility makes for a great shut down type of guy. Appreciate the analysis on Kaiser. Hawks’ future on the blueline looks great.

I know he’s been tasked with playing alongside Lev but something else that’s not been mentioned about Kaiser is that he can play up and down the pairings and play with anyone. He can play the point or the rearguard, he can play top line and special teams, and furthermore his explosive first few steps allow him to keep up with the speedy forwards on breaks whereas Vlasic, Lev, Crevier, Murph, and Grizz don’t have that. Most importantly, I hope Kyle and his cronies are propping up Kaiser’s vision, IQ, and relentless effort on a pedestal to EDM and Allan for who to mimic their NHL game after. Lastly and I’ve mentioned this a few times before but as a blue-collar hard work ethic type myself, Kaiser is amazing to watch his game in person where the camera doesn’t show what he does without the puck and on the bench!

What do you think of Askarov, AssMan? Crazy off the charts athlete but wow, he has one helluva chaotic crease.

Askarov, like many young Russian prospects, has a shitty self-entitled attitude but the skill is 100% legit. His classic wide stance works well with his super quick reflexes but so far in the NHL he’s been quick to drop his pads but needs to keep his back more straight so he doesn’t give up the high blocker shots and that’s been his downfall thus far in his limited time in the NHL. The game will eventually slow down for him and hopefully they keep their goalies at a 50/50 split otherwise I’d be pretty concerned that all the losing and GA will lead to confidence issues which is the kiss of death for goalies (similar to MLB relievers) as we all know. Askarov has never been on a really bad defensive team like this in his career either, so I’d keep an extra careful eye on him on a game-by-game basis but Grier’s an amazing GM and sure he’s on top of that. Sharks also have plenty of vets on the team and bet they’ve been tasked with assuring him “it’s them, not him”. All the new faces on defense are likely still learning the systems although the worst kept secret in their organization is that Warsofsky is a placeholder for the dark years a la Dale Sveum.

Interesting, there is a trade pitch out there, Soda for Primeau, Robertson and someone else? Gotta say the way Soda is playing the 2028 first round pick of the Leafs is where we start the convo….

They just claimed Primeau, why trade for him? Robertson is one of many smurfs on Toronto or in their prospect pool so no thank you and it shows their hand on what they’ll do with him as an RFA.

Happy to trade away Soda for the right price. They do have Holinka and Hopkins in the prospect pool. Toronto would have to move some more NHL salary to afford Soda’s cap hit. I would be interested in Dakota Joshua as this team could use some sandpaper in the lineup. Great intangibles guy as well. Dots, would you trade Soda for Joshua straight up?

As for Rinzel, absolutely — a very solid week for the big man. Sure, there will be nights where he struggles, but I believe Bashill will make the right in-game adjustments when that happens.

Curious if they’ll give Rinzel a maintenance day here and there to help him manage the full season if they were to be a playoff team. Hate to get to the playoffs after the long drought only to show up with corpses lol

Mikheyev with a monster 200′ game tonight. For all the roses people seem to throw at Dickinson’s feet, I think Mikheyev is the better player.

With all the young pups coming up including possibly Frondell next season as well, does Dickinson have a chance at coming back on a short deal since he’s a Blashill favorite thus far? I think the question is if Greene is ready to supplant Dickison at 3C at the end of the season. Mik def needs to be re-signed but think Foligno, Lafferty, and Reichel are elsewhere next season.

Anyone else see Middleton light up Dutch center ice and then absolutely pummel the living shit out of Petrovic (who stuck up for Dutch)? I believe that Petrovic landed 1 right and Middleton scored 3 rights, 2 uppercuts, 4 vicious rabbit punches, and finished him with a spinebuster.

Hard to believe that they still have seven 1st round picks not yet playing with the big club, and two more this coming draft. There will not be room for all of them, however not at that bridge yet.

    KK
    Allan
    Boisvert
    Vanacker
    Frondell
    Nestrasil
    West

    Oliver Moore says hi!

What’s the problem with Greene on the PP? He’s got some offense in his game, and who else would they put out there?

As far as OT goes, didn’t Van have the puck for most of the first half of it? Bedard in the first period was pretty much everything you want out of him. Battled for pucks (and won bunch) went through guys and not around them defensively, and generated some good chances.

Greene does not have offense to his game. He’s akin to Slaggs in that department and neither should be on PP.

First period was great all around. 2nd period refs became puppet masters and brought Vancouver back to life. OT was tough to watch and Reichel shouldn’t have been on the ice.

Donato with a dumb penalty on offense and the Canucks cut it to 2-1.

Wasn’t a dumb penalty. Nucks player embellished and upon replay Donato’s stick only hit his stick thus no slashing.

Commentators said morning skate had a lot of shit talking between the teams about Dickinson. When will Vancouver seek out redemption for Dickinson’s hit last season? And who instigates it?
