you gotta face it, Marner will NOT be back with the Leafs.
Exactly this.
Leafs fans paved paradise, put up a parking lot (not really, but my way of coping is to have fun with it).
With all the talk of if the Leafs are ‘worse’ without Marner is lacking a clear definition of what the person asking the ? views as ‘worse’.
Marner finished 5th in the league in scoring, and 7th in Selke voting.
I get that we all need to come up with ways to cope with his impending departure, but FFS, this team will be weaker next year without him.
That said, and being honest, if you’re paying a 1st rounder, you want a guy who is contributing more than Laughton did. Hopefully the second year at $1.5m makes that payment worth it.
– PunksieLaughton didn’t do a single thing that every other 4th line guy couldn’t do. You can pick those guys up for $2M – $3M on July 16th. It was a terrible overpay.
Hell, if the Habs strikeout with other options to fill their centre line, they could easily consider him.

This is going to be interesting to watch.
The guy is 37 years old, and hasn’t played since 2022-23 – and didn’t put up great numbers (although he was battling multiple ailments).
I think this is a classic case of hoping you get the guy from 10 years ago – and you will end up terribly disappointed.
