    Here is a question
Lets say the Leafs now with Marner are a 105 point team. pretty much last season, a few less

How many points do the Leafs have in 2025-26 if..
-they dont re-sign marner and dont replace him
    -replace him with Bennett
-replace with player of your choice (name them)

Signing Bennet for the money and term he is going to command will be an epic mistake

The entire hockey world says Marner is walking, for free.

Organizational failure of epic proportions. Management disaster.

Tree is part of that. Yes he only had a few weeks to make a tough decision on the core. But he ultimately walked the team to where they are now. No one has ever had the stones to make a tough decision in this era. Now? Best of luck to Tree and the management. They’re going to need it. I’m not super optimistic Tree can make chicken salad out of this. He got completely schooled at the deadline. Look at what Florida did, and what he did. His record does not give me a ton of be-leaf.

Tre gets a pass for me.. Two weeks on the job and likely a mandate from Shanny when he was hired that he could not trade the core.. I think that is part of the reason Dufus was gone.. Dufus finally realized what a colossal mess he made and wanted to fix it by trading Marner.

The only way out is Marner resigned under $13M, Nylander traded. Rielly moved. That way the assets stay in line and the return for Nylander and Rielly are other NHL players and picks. Another top 4 RHD so OEL can play his natural Left side. Tavares to the 3rd line on the cheap and another centre with tenacity on line 2. Toews on PTO?. McMann and Robertson need a new home. Bye to Jarnkrok, Kampf, Reaves & Holmberg. We have 5 good Defensemen and 2 Good Goaltenders. A very good top line. Work it out and remake this roster with grit and hustle.~ PrinceHL

    Marner is gone
Nylander has a NMC and is not going anywhere
Rielly is going nowhere(according to Lebrun I think)
McMann – If you get rid of him you will be looking for more goals from teh bottom 6.. He is fine on the 3rd line netting 20-25 goal
Robertson – Good luck on your travels
Jarncock – Don’t let the door hit you
Kampf- Don’t let the door hit you
Reaves- Don’t let the door hit you
Holmberg- I would let him stick around.. If can be a 4th line center/winger.. Cheap replacement for Kampf
Lorentz – I am good to have him back on a cheap contract

Leafs need to assess the farm and figure out which guys are not in the long term plans and use the assets before they lose value..Niemela, Kokeonen, Kressler, Tverberg come to mind, they are not grade A prospects but they are on the smaller size and don’t fit the Leafs direction. I would also entertain a trade of Cowan if the package coming back is exceptional.

Package them with some of the under contract veterans to bring in pieces

I think the Leafs D will look exactly the same as last year with Myers as the 7th guy.

If Marner helps them out and demands a sign and trade from the team he signs with we can maybe hope for a good forward prospect..

I’m not convinced JT will stay. Like Stamkos, I think he wants to stay and is saying all of the right things, but ultimately it’s up to Leafs management to make a fair offer. If that fair offer feels insultingly low, then he tests the market. Despite his age and warts, somebody will throw $4-5m at him easily, and maybe as high as $7.5m like Stamkos.

I used to work in management at a big box retailer and I was recruited by a rival big box. They offered better pay and better benefits, so I jumped ship. Well, I found out pretty quick that the other place was a clusterfuck. The managers were all either incompetent, dicks, or both. Most of my coworkers were joyless and hated their jobs and it showed in their performance. I hated it. I regretted my decision because the pay bump was too small to compensate for the additional suck the job required. I left a year later.

If JT really loves Toronto, he’ll stay. We’ll see. I think it’s a coin flip.

I think he stays.. My guess based on his end of year statements they already have a framework in place.. Question is will greedy Mitch demand a sign and trade from the new team for the 8th year.

Tre was asked today -“Can you say for certain that MM and JT will be offered contracts.” His answer was No

Also banned from the other site for comparing HB to the Leafs and only caring about profit..lol..

That does not scream “major changes”.

It does when your hero has given every indication that he wants to play elsewhere.

I am not sure why this is such a hard thing for you to grasp.. Even if the Leafs offered 8 X $14. According to Friedman or Dregger he already turned down 8 x $13.5 in season.

The Leafs need to see if any on the Marlies can play.

    Let Steves replace Robertson.

Give Villneive/Neimela a chance at camp. I think Topi is gone from Toronto’s plans as he is too small…They wasted his value when it was high.

RFA’s on my Wish list.. Morgan Geekie, Noah Dobson, Mason Mctavish.

Maybe see if you can pry Peterka/Byram out of Buffalo. Toronto does not have the assets but Buffalo is a tire fire and maybe they will take stuff.

There was a rumor that was on the other board that i had not heard that Berube wanted to spread Mathews/Marner and Nylander across the three lines and the players were not in favor.

Two other unsubstantiated rumors I heard this week(From a guy that knows a bunch of allums)

    1) The team is not actually that close off the ice as they make it seem
    2) Reilly has a cocaine problem

Can’t say they are true or not.. But it is rumor season.

I am not sure Willy is a fit on Line 1.. Both he and Mathews are technically shooters..
