ParticipantIt sucks to hear about the concussions in the AHL, hopefully nothing too serious for Korchinski or Allan.
Sounds like there will be a shake up in the line up with Foligno taking a leave of absence due to his family (his daughter’s medical surgery).
I really hope the Hawks can push the pace a bit more. They just need to find a way to not have to lean so heavy on the goalie to remain in games. Between now and November we should hopefully start to see some progress/improvement to show that Blashill is making a meaningful difference.

ParticipantJust an ugly win, but a win. Utah really gave that game away.
I really hope Blashill stops going with 7 D and considers getting Mikheyev/Donato into the top 6. Down the stretch last year we had a top 6 like this
Donato – Bedard – Mikheyev
Bertuzzi – Nazar – TurboMaybe it’s just me, but I don’t think Dach is a top 6 player at the NHL level. Bertuzzi has been mostly invisible for long stretches for most of his Chicago career. I would be considering moving Donato and Mikheyev up the lines and Bertuzzi and Dach down to the bottom 6.

ParticipantThe third line just trying to work and will the team to their first win of the year. Have to admire the effort from all three guys on that forward group right now.

ParticipantI’m usually pretty optimistic but the Hawks are pretty lucky to not be down a couple right now. It’s a young season so far but arguably playing worse 5v5 than last season. Losing a lot of puck battles, not protecting the puck, just giving it away at the wrong areas of the ice. Knight (and Soderblom) have kept them in games, but they have yet to have a 60 minute effort where they looked good. Just not impressed with this start to the season.

ParticipantAnd pairing Artie with Kaiser has been gold. Zero chance Artie puts up a 53 and 64 CF% in the 2 games without Kaiser’s IQ, skating, reads and compete. …
The thing is, on a solid team they would be playing 14-15 minutes a night as the 3rd pair. The stats like Corsi have been also a factor of the somewhat sheltered starts Blashill has given. Rinzel, Murphy, Del Mastro, have gotten the majority of the Dzone starts, where as the Kaiser/Levshunov pair have been given more of the Ozone starts.

ParticipantGood God this software……. Artie had a 53 corsi v the champs, 64 at Bpston. He’s 19 yrs old man and I think he leads the club in corsi for by a bunch. The eye test in these two games has shown a player who’s skill/skating/offensive upside can impact the game but he has some real WTF moments and his 3 stick penalties in the 2 games may have cost the team a win or even 2.
I came on to post if he keeps up these penalties they’re gonna have to sit him but man, the 19 yr old has underlying numbers that says you can’t. ………
Two be fair to Levshunov, one of those penalties was make believe and the other was a pretty soft call. He is raw still and not yet matured, which is why ultimately he should probably be playing AHL minutes right now, but yeah the talent is evident.

ParticipantSo that huge 2026 UFA forward class is now down to Kempe, Panarin and Necas. Unless you want to include Nick Schmautz as a difference maker.
That’s why drafting is king, especially as the cap rises, teams will be signing their guys.

ParticipantMinor thing in the write up, the Panthers goal scorer was Jesper Boqvist and not his little brother Adam. Adam was with the Panthers last year but he was a waiver pick up by the Islanders.

ParticipantWell, we played one good period (the 2nd) in that first game. The first period was rough and made worse by the weak penalty calls on Levshunov. The team still looked a bit disorganized in their own end, forwards late to get to coverage. We got burned for a goal on Grzelcyk being out of position, which is pretty much the book on him (or so I’ve been told).
While there were a couple bright spots, that was a sound beating the Knight kept close.

ParticipantWhat a phantom call on Levshunov. Wow.

ParticipantSurprised at McD signing for only 12.5M. Giving Stan the opportunity to fill in pieces around him the next 2 years. Good for him.
Yes, I know to check the box, and usually I check that post actually posted, but what I’m talking about isn’t just a me thing. There were like about a half dozen additional posts by other users, then I came back a couple hours later and they are all gone. It’s like they restored the database from a backup.

ParticipantMan, what is with these forums and posts just disappearing? Btw, looks like McDavid just made a statement signing for less to stay in Edmonton. 12.5 Mil for the best player in his prime.

ParticipantGrzelcyk certainly leaves a lot to be desired on the defensive end. All in all, it was a somewhat lackluster preseason. Nazar and Dach were the bright spots.
Glad to see the season starting up, should be exciting. Just seems like the team has a distance to go to be comfortable in Blashill’s systems.

ParticipantIMO it’s shaping up that we’ll see both Greene and Moore sent down. I think Joey Anderson will get sent down through waivers once healthy. I think Slaggert will get slotted in on line 3 and Lafferty on line 4. Reichel will probably stick around unless traded or injury gets him back in or he gets a shot in the lineup.
To me, they still have Bertuzzi in the top 6 when he isn’t playing up (last season) to the level of a top 6 guy. Plays small for his size and unless he is fed backdoor goals by more skilled players, doesn’t accomplish much. If he doesn’t improve I hope they send him a message by moving him down the lineup and giving someone else his spot in the top 6.

ParticipantThe Detroit goals were basically.
1) Bad turnover with Bedard carrying the puck over the attacking blueline followed up by a bad pinch by Murphy which resulted in odd man rush against. It was a couple mistakes that you don’t want to see come regular season and the two Hawks back EDM and Burakovsky were in a tough spot, but also didn’t manage to do much either.
2) Breakdown of coverage left a Redwing wide open in the slot as they moved the puck around and behind the net.
3) End of a powerplay and Rinzel got outworked by a fresh Redwing just on the ice (I believe he came out of the box) as he stripped Rinzel of the puck and set up a goal on the rush.
All in all, the Hawks are still adjusting to the new scheme but we are seeing the odd rookie mistakes or mental errors. Overall, it’s only 4 games in the preseason (small small sample) but they are still playing like a bottom 5 defensive team. (so far) I’m curious to see how they are playing after the first 15 games or so.
