In the preseason game the one thing i did not like was the forwards not engaging the puck carrier, instead stopping short and guessing where the pass was going, i sure hope that’s not part of Blashill’s approach.

Agreed, they were reacting slowly instead of naturally and likely due to the new systems. The sooner they sort out who’s going where, the sooner they can hammer in the details of the new systems with extra reps to just the ones staying up rather than all the camp bodies. Also, to your point from a previous post about Arty, I also agree he’d be better off going to Rockford along with KK. Not sure who of the two would get paired with Allan but the other will end up with Harding or Mast. If I had to pick one or the other staying up, I’d keep Arty up and hope the vets can whip him into shape.

It’s not really a question of Arty vs KK. I really don’t think they will be asking either of those two to switch sides. The Hawks have Rinzel, Murphy, and Crevier on the right side (and I maintain that the Hawks don’t really want Crevier to play every day). KK is up against EDM and Allan for the last LD spot. Vlasic and Kaiser are the locks. Gryz is there to pick up the slack if they don’t think either of KK or Arty really belong. I think they’ll give Arty a ton of rope though.

Tab over at BleacherNation just posted this regarding how the Hawks are splitting up the practice groups.

    https://www.bleachernation.com/blackhawks/2025/09/25/blackhawks-roster-already-starting-to-take-shape/

No real surprises there in my eyes other than Korchinski who I thought played a good game. I’d love to see Lardis get in a game and see what he can do against some better competition. One thing I do like is that Blashill doesn’t seem to be waiting too long to get the “main” guys going and concentrating on getting that group to iron out the details.

I have no idea why, but I’m really interested to see how Foligno does this year.

Well that kind of depends, doesn’t it? After a turnover in your own zone, what are his responsibilities? If I had to guess, he’s not allowed to just chase the puck all over the zone until he gets it back. It was bad, but it’s also preseason playing with a bunch of guys he hasn’t much in practice and who likely won’t be with the club to start the year.

Point it out, learn, and move on…

I want to see how he does with Burakovsky and Donato. I’ll also hold any judgement on Nazar until I see him back with TT and Bertuzzi. They both looked very disjointed and unsure to me yesterday.

    ……….

Chunk, I had a bad feed yesterday. Help me out…… At the sidewall bedard took a pass and it looked like he coughed not got stripped. Which was it….. Then he was so flat footed and unaware he didn’t even move his feet he pathetically reached as the Wing drove thru the circle. Wrong?

And I didn’t see Bedard below his endline much, if at all. Kid was above or at the top of the circles when the puck was below the dots in his zone. Looked to me he had winger responsibilities. Wrong? Anyone have a thought?………. So no Chunk, we don’t know what his resposibilities were on the cough/strip but regardless the attempt and awareness at recovery of the puck was feckless. As he’s been 80% of his time as a Hawk..[/quote]

Hey Rico. No getting around it. It was a crap play by Bedard. I was following the puck after the turnover so didn’t see exactly what Bedard did. I’m not going to fret much that he’s not a Selke candidate. His game is offense. If he can be reasonable defensively (a la Kane) and put up 100 pts, I’ll be a happy camper. If you are expecting him to turn into some greatly improved defensive player, you are likely going to be gravely disappointed.

If I’m handicapping it right now, I think Frondell ultimately ends up the 1C and Bedard will ultimately end up a wing. I just think it will free him up to be the point producer he’s destined to be. Frondell is really impressive on his skates and just finds the right places to be. He’s incredibly solid. I watched his last game on the Flosports app. He’s a lot of fun to watch.

Now that’s the one timer I’ve been waiting to see from Bedard. Glad they finally figured it out

Bedard looked great other than the turnover. Best forward on the ice last night for us.

He did look good. I’m not at all concerned about Bedard’s offense. Especially when he finally gets some actual NHL line mates (which I think Burakovsky can be a really good one as long as he stays healthy). The nice things to see from him last night were the improved back checking, 70% FO, and actually engaging on defense. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but definitely better than what we saw last year.

It’ll likely be ugly to start, but should get notably better as the year progresses.

Watching last night one thing was obvious team speed is nice but the team that played with more discipline and structure won last night. Something i hope Blashill instills in the team.

As is normally the case. The most disappointing thing to me yesterday was that Blashill said he wants to get everyone shooting more. There were more deferrals yesterday than at a college admissions office.

I like Dach, but I don’t think he’ll be much more than a bottom sixer. I just don’t think he can play at the higher pace. (not just based on this game)
Outside of the chance in the 1st, Reichel was invisible to me.
Lafferty is still where puck possession goes to die.
Kaiser seemed to be the most effective defenseman. I think he’s a great partner for Arty.
If this is Soda’s standard game and not the exception, the Hawks are going to be in good hands in net this year.

That last goal is completely on Bedard for a garbage turnover win his own zone.

With a devil may care attitude, Chunk. The turnover was weak the “attempt” to get the puck back was pathetic. … Bedard looked the same to me except he’s a tad thicker. .

    Big pile of ~meh~ tonight.

Nothing to read much into though. A bunch of lines that won’t be playing in the reg season. Not great to see EDM struggle so much. Soda being a brick wall was nice to see.

Hey Rico. Thanks. I figured, I would drop a stink bomb in the middle of the whole discussion and then just leave, but there’s no fun if you don’t hang around and throw a couple low punches.

Hey Coach! Thanks for the summary. I think the two main drivers of what happens this year are going to be how fast the D gets up to speed, and Knight (or at least the goaltending in general).

I’m a huge fan of Frondell. Once he’s ready to come over, he’s going to be a mess for other teams to deal with.

Hey everybody! Nice to see y’all are still getting along.

I know I’m jumping in a bit late here, but maybe we let some of the 5th graders KD’s drafted recently show what they can do before launching them for an 8th grader.
