There’s been a lot of talk about Artyom Levshunov, Zeev Buium, Zayne Parekh, and Ivan Demidov lately. My take? It’s still way too early to compare them. Outside of a few games for Arty, none of them have really played in the NHL yet.

Each comes from a different background — Arty and Buium out of the NCAA, Parekh from the CHL, and Demidov from the KHL. I watched all of them last season, and like any prospects, they all had stretches of ups and downs. That’s normal. Development isn’t a straight, linear path — it’s full of peaks and valleys.

That’s why NHL teams are investing millions into development staffs. The real test is how these players adapt — the speed of the game, their decision-making, their consistency. Until then, we have to let things play out before declaring who’s better.

Fans will debate Demidov vs. Arty for years, and that’s fine. Personally, I’ve seen every Demidov game last year — he’s a special talent. But I’m also comfortable with the Blackhawks’ choice. If Levshunov develops properly, he’ll be a cornerstone defenseman and that’s worth the pick.

And don’t forget Sam Rinzel. He’s a perfect example of a player who quickly figured out what it takes to play at the NHL level. I fully expect him to be in the Calder Trophy conversation all year. For me, instead of Demidov vs. Arty, the real storyline might be Arty vs. Rinzel.

All in all, the Blackhawks’ scouting staff deserves credit. In the last few years, they’ve built a prospect pool that looks like the foundation of a contending team. Have agreed great weekend of hockey…

@boilemaker: Roman Kancerov: 1 assist, 3 SOG FO: 53.9% TOI 11:54 lower of the season but he was gone for 14 MIN PPTOI: 21 seconds and PK 24 seconds… not a bad game overall. His team lost 2-1

@betweenthedots: You know Levshunov vs. Demidov will be compared for years, just like other teams’ draft choices. But the key isn’t the comparison — it’s Arty’s development. If he grows into the level the Blackhawks expect and plays the role they need, then it’s a great pick for Chicago. We can debate draft picks for hours, but for me it’s about enjoying the season ahead. Whatever Demidov does won’t take away from the excitement of seeing Arty develop into his role.

Thanks for your comment! You nailed it — the Hawks have piled up so many draft picks that the talent pool is really starting to show. And you’re right, those jumps from 18 to 19 to 20 can be huge. One summer can change everything with strength, confidence, and maturity. That’s what makes rookie camp exciting — you never know who’s going to surprise and force their way in. The rebuild is definitely moving in the right direction.

GM Bill Guerin speaks on Kaprizov contract – “I know two things, that info didn’t come from us and it didn’t come from Kirill’s agent, I don’t know where it came from.

Thanks for the great comment, my friend — it’s clear you really love the game. ???? I had the chance to scout in the USHL and worked with the Panthers, and I was at the NHL Draft when so many NTDP players went in the first round — Turcotte, Knight, York, Caufield, and others.

Back when I was with Florida, I had some good conversations with Luongo about Knight. He loved the kid — especially his calm presence and the way he tracks the puck. Of course, Knight went through a rough stretch with some personal challenges, but he got the help he needed and has moved forward.

Like you said, this season will be the true test. For me, there’s no doubt — if he gets the games and the consistency, he’s going to become a top goalie in the NHL

Welcome to HHS, and thanks for your comment! ???? I agree with you on Knight — the big key now is simply getting more NHL games under his belt.

As for Rinzel, I think after Nazar he might be the prospect who surprises the most this upcoming season. With Arty, I see it as just a period of adaptation. The kid is very talented, he just needs some time — maybe a few months — to settle in.

This season will be a great chance to watch how all these prospects develop. It’s part of the process, and the patience will pay off.

I don’t see Kaprizov leaving the Wild either. As for Davidson, he’s staying patient — likely until the trade deadline — and then looking at UFAs next summer. My own target would be Kyle Connor. If Brossoit is healthy, they could carry three goalies for a few weeks before a trade, or even loan him to the AHL on a conditioning stint.

If there are any topics you’d like me to cover, feel free to ask — I try to check in here once or twice a day.
