ParticipantYes indeed, much too expensive to ask : ASP ? No way. They asked for 3 first rounders (!) and prospects. If we were very close to win, why not but I understand SY too. And I’m sorry for him but don’t forget Hugues can easily be injured.
Let’s hope SY has something else in mind.frenchtoto
ParticipantHello everyone,
good for ASP indeed, and really happy for Ed not being out for now… totally agree for the Hugues trade, not at any cost (ASP for example) but it is interesting for sure (though I read he could be injured too often).
I can remember the old days (seem to talk like a grandpa, sorry, I’m not at all !) where Detroit had to do some difficult trades to win and have Shanahan, Hull or Chelios as the last pieces. We are not there yet but Hugues could be welcomed for Kasper and/or Danielson and picks (I’d rather keep Danielson but sacrifice…).
I’m quite sure Yzerman is not going to trade at all costs so either Vancouver accepts that or there will be no trade.frenchtoto
ParticipantGood news indeed for the team if players start to play and score : happy for JVR, ASP, Danielson and Kasper. Gibson too, what a game. The long trip seems to tighten the team, though they were maybe outplayed if you look at the stats.
I wonder if everyone is motivated by the olympics (Kane, Larkin, Mo…) and hope they will not get too tired coming back (or worse, injured) and still okay to get back on track for the run.
As you said it, this year is a bit crazy and so tight that until the last game, maybe three or four or five teams can make it or lose it by one point !frenchtoto
ParticipantHello again from across the ocean,
reading all these interesting lines, I was wondering how I could record a Detroit game and watch it from France (I mean, legally of course because there are probably strange ways to do it but no thanks) to have at least one full game. Does that exist on the net ?
There is a channel here which gives you one game every week but you don’t know what teams are going to play so it would be expensive just to have to wait for Detroit, if it ever happens (unless they go to the finals).
And I agree with the Hugues trade, but not for Larkin/Razor/Mo/Ed/Debrincat/ASP. That doesn’t leave a lot for Vancouver except for prospects and Danielson and Kasper. I would be a difficult trade indeed, but maybe the next step to win more.
For now, let’s see how many points the team is going to get !frenchtoto
ParticipantHi again,
nice and complete report to read indeed, thanks. The problem with the injured is that it is going to damage the griffins, somehow. Who will come to the big team ?
I’m following Wallstedt a little and, though Cossa is doing very well, is he going to be as good ? Wallstedt said the team was playing well, and I think he’s right, a goalie cannot do everything, at least for the long season (he can win some games by himself sometimes though). The Griffins are probably playing well too in front of Cossa. Hockey is a team game, and Detroit has to get better in front of its goalies.frenchtoto
ParticipantThe change of mindset (or at least being consistent in this change) is worth noting indeed ! Talent is there, is changing one player enough ?
Making the playoffs is not enough, you have to be ready to do something in these games. Being swept in the first round is not something you wish, so if you go, you have to be sure it is for a good reason and not just a few games.
Today, Detroit is at the limit but if they make it, maybe it will give them a spark of confidence for the years to come ?frenchtoto
ParticipantStill cannot see new comments… never mind, I’ll go with this one.
Tight loss and stupid move by Hischier after Larkin’s goal (pushing him, then behind pushed back by Finnie, he gets mad). If he is such a good player, he has to accept the goal. Proper mindset and good example on the ice is as important to me.
I hope they will re match at some time because Detroit deversed to win this one.
Talbot not as sharp tonight ?frenchtoto
ParticipantHi again,
at last I can read your new message… I had to go to the scroll menu, click on your name, to have them otherwise it is staying on the griffins report, strangely. Maybe something to do with my pc ?
However, I don’t understand why Detroit is playing so well in front of Talbot and not with Gibson. If you look at the stats, no problem with knowing who you should put in net but maybe there’s more to answer.
Talbot has given confidence to the team, not Gibson so everyone is probably keeping the sticks too tight and not playing well with him.
Like you said, I hope they can come out with two wins but they are more motivated playing against good teams (and let’s hope Talbot will get two starts…).
Good to see Seider on the board by the way !frenchtoto
ParticipantHi again,
how about the D ? Is anyone playing well in GR ?
Same for the goalies (if not injured) ?
Difficult game to come vs NYI in a few hours… let’s go young ones !frenchtoto
ParticipantJust saw videos of the after game brawl. Part of me says “what a pity, what a stupid Quick doing that, a goalie stays there and does not go in like this” and a little part of me says “okay, he really wants to win badly, at 39, it is not respectful but understandable”.
Loved ASP coming in and help though he is so small, Ed jumping in without thinking he’s got two or three around him throwing punches, Larkin helping of course, Hamonic trying to take one on each arm, Seider stepping in.
Trying to stay a bit more neutral than some NY official sites, I would say Appleton should have stopped his shot, he had time for that but it was not the end of the world and not at all a reason for Quick to go in like this. This is nowhere for a goalie to be or to do, even if the game is over and you don’t mind staying focused or not.
The crowd seemed to love it, okay, and it is emotions indeed. But all this frustration… Quick was trying to contain his emotions and anger on the interview.
NHL mustn’t forget all this is because of poor calls for both teams : what lesson will they learn ?frenchtoto
ParticipantI like your stats on the 6 wins out of 10 games, it will be interesting to follow. They are going to have up and downs but it gives us a good idea where they are.
We should remember the east is so difficult, teams are so close, but if you manage to go to playoffs, you could probably do some interesting games and go forward a bit.
This last game shows us that Detroit has the talent, the coaches, it only needs mental toughness, will (and sometimes rest…) to win !frenchtoto
ParticipantConcerning young D issues indeed, but is it the system or the players ? I’m not sure having a top 4 D (if it is ever possible now it is so expensive) will change the D system. NHL is punishing, a mistake = a goal, but if you can play following a good D system, with a lot of will, it should be enough. Look at the start of the season, it worked.
Maybe it is too demanding, and as the young ones are getting tired, they cannot follow it properly.
But I’m not sure a good D would bring better results. Unless they can bring a superstar like Lidstrom…frenchtoto
ParticipantYes, indeed, consistency is the main thing with this team ; talent is there but with so many games, you can understand why players can be tired (bodies and/or heads) but that’s how you go to playoffs, furthermore if your division is so so so so (did I say “so” ?) difficult !
At least, once you are in, that means you really deserve it and can do something interesting, and discover unusual heroes.
But as it is often said, one game after the other, we are so far away from that today !frenchtoto
ParticipantYes, what a relief for the fans too !
They want to win against good teams, and with a bit of work they can do it. Not so motivated against other teams.
The young ones are not spending a long time in the game (watch ASP !), let’s hope it will push every one to become better !
By the way, how was Kasper ?frenchtoto
ParticipantHi again,
one of the problems is Gibson or Talbot have to be very sharp when the team isn’t, and it didn’t happen enough on this losing streak.
And now, other teams know Kasper and the PP, so they are not surprised anymore. I cannot watch the full games but is the team already tired ? Is it just confidence for the goals ?
Detroit should be motivated facing one of the top teams, no question about that ! A lot of players are proud and want a “revenge”. A spark for the rest of the season ? -
