Dubas seems to be following the same model Arizona/ Utah did, by acquiring a ton of draft capital and pipeline developmental players. The challenge is taking all that and converting it to NHL on-ice success. Not many examples of teams being successful using this route (Utah, Detroit, Buffalo). Teams don’t want to give up developed, cost-controlled younger talent. I see this as only getting worse if the NHL expands in the next couple of years.

Wish the Pens would be in on Jason Robertson.

You need to hit on your draft picks. I don’t see any other way to build a consistent contender in a capped league. Build a good base of young (cost controlled) players. Then add when the right time is right. If we’re being completely honest, the Pens are still in the very early stages of a rebuild. They don’t have any “franchise” players on the horizon. Maybe a few good players, but no show stoppers. You need at least a couple of legit stars to be a regular contender.

Dubas has already said he’ll use his picks to make moves if he can, but you’re right, teams usually don’t let good young prospects leave for picks.

From Haase… The Penguins have now accumulated 29 draft picks over the next three years — 17 of which are within the first three rounds.

My how things have changed lol.

Seems like EK will be leaving for sure now. Maybe flip Dumba at the deadline. Got a 2nd to take one year….pretty good IMO.

Yeah this site is clunky. I also feel like we don’t always see RWs blogs on time. Either or, glad we can chat still.

That being said – why tf did we not trade for Isaac Howard???

As someone who was on HB from the beginning, his site was really clunky for the first few years. It takes time. I just hope people don’t get frustrated and give up. I haven’t heard back from any of the other regulars over there. Those DM’s were supposedly delivered. I’m guessing those users got banned and never went back. Or, my DM’s never got through. Who knows.

I think they have some good writers and content here. Might take awhile to get things figured out.

Trying to comment on the latest blog but it keeps asking me to sign in after already signing in. Anyone figure out how to get past that?

I had the same problem several times. I just refreshed the page and suddenly I was logged in.

Was listening to Madden yesterday…. He had Yohe on… Said, he thinks one of Rust or Rak are likely gone by the start of the season. Likely both gone by TDL. Also said a few teams want EK if we retain $$$. Said there aren’t many sellers right now, so we should get really good returns. No great revelations here lol. If all 3 of those guys are gone, tank for Mckenna is officially on. I hope they do it.

I sounds like Horcoff was one of the stars of this camp. Big, skilled and can skate. Man…. we need a player like him to develop. Sounds like Horcoff and Zannon were men against boys. Haase said Kindle’s shot was noticeable, but lack of size and speed weren’t good.

FWIW, Marshall believes Beauchesne is one of the steals of the draft.

Yohe mentioned Harding last year. He was talking about him being a prospect that nobody is talking about (last year), but has quickly become one of our best kids.

    Josh Yohe

Kyle Dubas said he would be active in trade talks. And from what I hear, this is very much the case today.

I’ll be surprised if Rust, Rak and EK are Pens by the TDL. If a couple of those guys go, this will easily be a bottom 5 team. Poor Sid.

I don’t think they should sign anyone else. They should try to keep a roster spot or two to allow the AHL guys an avenue to get some experience and go back down for more AHL games if needed. If they keep signing guys, they’ll all be stuck in the AHL again. Not saying they need to be with the big club all season, but I’d prefer to give them flavors of the show and send them back if they aren’t ready.

Pens need to be sinking near the bottom of the standings so definitely don’t go after Ehlers lol hopefully they ship out EK and one of Rust/Rakell for more assets. Hell they should ship out both Rust and Rakell but who knows if they’d do that.

    Tomasino-Geno-Koivenen
    Heinen-Novak-Hayes
    Brazeau-Lizotte-Dewar/Acciari

    Tank.

I’d be surprised if any of Rust, EK or Rak are Pens after the TDL. Agree on the tank. If not for Sid, this team would be bottom 3 this year.

I thought we’d get Gryz back. He did well on the PP last year and he’s still out there.

Unfortunately, we already have enough of those guys on the roster already. Hayes, Acciari, Lizzo, Heinan, Novak. We didn’t qualify Tomasino or Dewar.
