You’re right, the Flyers aren’t a great team. And if they played against a team like Carolina, they’d likely be getting shut out. But to act like this series has nothing to do with the Flyers and all hinges on what the Penguins do is Tanner-level homerism.
Hathaway absolutely deserved 2 minutes. But Sid flopping to the ice, and staying down even after Hathaway was being escorted to the box as if he had been shot, was over-the-top embellishment. And that’s saying something for a player who once embellished when a lineman accidentally brushed his helmet.
The reason Rust got the extra 2 is because he continued WWE-style slamming Konecny’s helmetless head into the ice after the officials were there to stop it. But I guess that Konecny shouldn’t try to the kick him off to stop it. After all, it’s only your head being slammed into hard ice, not anything important.
It’s okay though, I’m sure the Flyers will get their standard 3 penalties mandated by Uncle Gary for grazing against Crosby in Game 4.
