ParticipantVery true, although I personally don’t really take draft position into account much.
I agree totally with icing the best team, going with who is better, earning TOI, and moving forward with the rebuild as is best, regardless of draft position.
re: KK, I’m specifically saying it would sting a lot more if they:
1) began the tank by trading away a 30-40 goal scorer entering his prime and,
2) used the acquired #7OA pick to draft a D-man and,
3) they spent years waiting for him to develop and,
4) they gave up on him a year or so too early and,
5) then he got good at NHL hockey soon after…..*if* all 5 of those happened (the first 3 already happened)
…that would be a harsh indictment of management, scouting, player development in RFD and CHI, et, etc.You could pass it off as “well KK 7OA and Rinzel 25OA same draft class, 1 hit 1 miss”, but man, you better be sure KK sucks before giving up.
He is still young (as I pointed out w/ the age comparisons a few posts ago)September 25, 2025 at 3:56 pm in reply to: Brossoit: Prospect Showcase Packed with Top Habs Hopefuls #37719Metalhead
Participanthe is a wing. IDGAF what he is listed as.
~grumpy old man alert*
But yeah Colton plays the wing. ????

ParticipantThere’s a very real chance of that happening regardless
Yes, I just think if it were to be KK the pain would be even greater due to
his draft position and because they traded away DeBrincat to pick KK.If you traded/waived Allan or Crevier (just for example) and they improved a ton at age 24 or 25, it’d be kinda random (which could be said of Forsling to be fair).
But, giving up on the #7OA pick too early and watching him greatly succeed would be a serious kick in the sack and damaging criticism of management.Metalhead
ParticipantMH, decent enough chance KK doesn’t live up to his draft status but the kid has the traits to be a useful NHL player.
I agree.
To be fair though, you neglected to quote/respond to the info I supplied before that last part, supporting the fact that KK is still very young (compared to Hjalmarsson and Keith).(imho) keep giving him chances until/unless he totally busts out. I don’t want another Forsling situation.

GO HABS GO!His brother looked “okay” on Tuesday.
Maybe “Dach Power” is on the rise?
Fingers crossed for the Habs sake, sending good vibes.Metalhead
ParticipantReplying to MH’s 1:27 post.
I’m still expecting KK to be one of the two remaining to make the team.Could be. I wouldn’t be surprised if they run him up and down the RFD shuttle this year.
As Mr Ricochet mentioned, it’s weird how young KK still is.Nik Hjalmarsson (yes I’m aware a totally different type of D-man) did not stay up for good until he was 22 years, 4 months.
KK would not be 22 years, 4 months until the start of the ’26/27 season.
At that time (early October 2026) he would only be one month older than Duncan Keith, when Duncan Keith played his first ever NHL game.
And as great as he became, Keith still had some warts early in his NHL career.KK’s development arc is already disappointing based on his draft position (Adam Boqvist 2.0 anybody?)
Hopefully he gets it, sooner rather than later.September 24, 2025 at 5:16 pm in reply to: Brossoit: Prospect Showcase Packed with Top Habs Hopefuls #37571Metalhead

ParticipantI think you’re underestimating Crevier, MH.
Fair enough. ????

Participant43 shots against a JV Wings team is not good especially since we were fielding 6 NHL-ready D men
Hello Pops.
I would make the argument that KK, Crevier, Arty and EDM are not NHL ready defensemen.
They all give reason for future optimism, but they are all still raw, especially at playing defense.Metalhead
ParticipantGrz is a lock to make the roster and eat 20:00 a night for this squad.
Blackhawks defense rostered players:
Murphy
Vlasic
Kaiser
Rinzel
Crevier (lost waivers exemption, he stays up unless the team trades or sends him down and risks losing him for nothingOut of those 5, only Murphy is a true veteran. Vlasic has 179 NHL games, Kaiser 98, Crevier 56 and Rinzel 9 games.
That would leave (2) roster spots that both get consistent TOI (if you think Crevier is mostly sitting). There are three good reasons to keep another veteran to stabilize the defense for now.
1) Spencer Knight 2) Connor Bedard 3) Frank NazarIs Knight best developed by having him face a shooting gallery and lots of breakaways every game? Low save %, damaged confidence, etc.
Or would it be better to let him get slightly more comfortable with a possibly “weak”, but not “learning on the job” defense in front of him?
Is it really a great idea to have Bedard and Nazar consistently play while down a goal or two?
Or would it be better to have them play more minutes in tied games or learning how to protect/increase a lead?
(don’t get me wrong, if it’s a disaster all 3 will tough it out like they should, I just don’t think it’s the best way for them to develop)you still can do something like:
Vlasic / Rinzel
Murphy / Kaiser
Gryz / rotating youngster (Crevier, Arty, EDM, etc) or flip Gryz and KaiserStill plenty of NHL experience to be had for defensive newbies (which includes Rinzel, Kaiser), while maybe upgrading the NHL game experience for your most important non-defense players.
I’m not 100% convinced Gryz gets kept, but this is my best argument in favor of it.Metalhead

The Blackhawks have re-assigned Marek Vanacker, Jack Pridham, Nathan Behm and Parker Holmes back to their junior teams.September 24, 2025 at 12:33 pm in reply to: Brossoit: Prospect Showcase Packed with Top Habs Hopefuls #37460Metalhead
ParticipantThe WiFis gonna be fun when they play together in MLT.
Help out the newb?
Who are the WiFis ?Metalhead
ParticipantToews played his 1st game w/ Winnipeg last night.
I watched some highlights.
He got back nicely to spoil a breakaway. Also had a nice low angle attempt after a faceoff win.All comes down to how his body holds up. Interested to how much they manage his workload.

ParticipantNothing to read much into though. A bunch of lines that won’t be playing in the reg season. Not great to see EDM struggle so much. Soda being a brick wall was nice to see.
For sure. There were not any “OMG” jumps from the youngsters, woulda been nice.
Soda still kinda swimmy and some rebounds seemed kinda off. Thankfully he looked like last year Soda and not ’23/24 Soda.
EDM and Arty showed us why Gryz is here. -
