Welcome to day 2 of “Why is Carey Price still a Hab?”

Super nice out, went for a long walk early this morning, did not want to come back… but just too much work that I cannot avoid.

Because why would teams jump on that contract? Mtl is the one desperate to get rid of it.

If all a team can get from this besides reaching the $$$ floor is a 3rd round pick there should not be any surprise there.

I mean, in theory, a team could decide to sign a god damn squirrel at 5M per year to reach the floor et voila! Thats easy!

Whats not that easy is a team willing to trade for Price’s contract. They could sign anybody in the world at any price to reach the floor.

I am too young to remember early goldy, but watching back I was like, yeah gay.

Not to mention I first remember him when he was wearing a green spandex suit under lingerie, while having a gag ball in his mouth
He had some good feuds against Razor Ramon (Scott Hall) and taker, at least from what I can remember. I was young at the time as well.94? 95? If so I was 11-12 back then.

Correct, 35+ contracts stay on the books even if they retire
do you remember when they used to push Goldust as being Bizarre and thinking to yourself :not bizarre, just really gay?

I mean, good gimmick back then in the 90s, just saying.

Should the NHL step in and review the contract?
Marchand’s deal is legal under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, but critics argue it undermines the cap system’s fairness. At 37 years old, Marchand would need to maintain NHL-level performance into his 40s to fulfill the contract’s full duration—a feat accomplished by only a handful of forwards in league history.

As Alter points out, if Marchand retires or is placed on long-term injured reserve in the latter years of the contract, the Panthers would avoid cap penalties while reaping the benefits of a lower cap hit in the earlier seasons. This loophole—though technically allowed—has drawn renewed concern about cap integrity.

They let it happen, kovalchuks contact got revoked, and then they let teams do what they wanted. Best to just stop it moving forward instead of retroactively changing contacts

Seems like he would have to go on LTIR and not retired : 35+ Contracts:
For a player who signed a contract at age 35 or older, the salary cap hit remains in place, and the team continues to count the full salary against their cap, even though the player is retired.
Alternative to Retirement:
To avoid losing future pay, it is much more common for an injured player with an active contract to go on Long-Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) instead of retiring

-So the previous infos is not right, if the just retires before the end of his deal, unless Im missing something

You mean what Vegas and Tampa did?

I was talking about the deal of Marchand and a few of their key players, but the Marchand deal is the one that come to mind. The cap is a total joke when a team does something like that. But the hockey experts on TV were praising that like it was so smart and magical.

It is clear cap circumvention and I was pretty sure the NHL already had some rules on this. I dont feel this is something knew at all.

We are coming back to the days when Hossa became allergic to his hockey equipment.

Their GM at the time should have been beaten with a shovel when it came up with that crap.

I was talking about ltiring guys. Tb, abs, vgk and the floridacats all have used it. Oddly enough, the last four teams to win a cup.

I don’t care about a marchand type contract because that could come back and bite them

No cause he will never play the last years of this contract and they will get away with it. You really think they will have to pay for this? Not if the league refuses to step up.

And sure, the LTIR thing was a trick used by cup contenders to win the cup. And it worked.

At least the league did something about this after a while. But teams will keep pulling some crap left and right and the Panthers did that already this summer. But it was great!

Too bad the Panthers already found another way to cheat anyway

It only became an issue when the oilers did it

Sources: The #NHL and #NHLPA have agreed to a rolling implementation schedule for CBA changes.

Among them: the new playoff salary cap system will come into effect *this season* for the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Good.

the devil wants his due. he will open it.

also.

let us pray.

I would be ready to finally throw out some thoughts and prayers, but I don’t think his supporters would really like to hear what those are.

Also, Pete might be sad.

good luck with Vance
