This game is a bit of a snoozer. Do we have any hitters on this team? Size is fine, but using the body would be helpful. Of course, with all of the fashonista’s on the team, having a bruise on their pretty boy faces would be a no-no. Almost football time……

Working on journalism with the game in the background. So far, they’re working hard, but that and $2 gets you a coffee. I think that this game will define whether they try for a playoff spot, or tear it down for the year. Buffalo will be a trial by fire, then the West Coast trip that’ll bleed them physically. Best be getting ready for a purge…..as I type the Avs scored.

Watching the Bruins and Habs and I must say, the youth and exuberance was entertaining to watch. It reminded me about the 2nd season of Matthews, Marner and company. At that point, the sky was the limit. The only issue was in goal. Fast forward 7 years and the rolls are reversed. Very little youth, very little exuberance, but the goaltending is very good. It seems like the Leafs are always out of balance. Once costent was neither part of the last 9 year was having a stud defenseman that could play 30 minutes a game and quarterback the powerplay. A whole decade wasted, due to mismanagement. The talent hid a lot of the warts, but the results tell the real story. I truly want the Leafs to win, but this group isn’t going to be the one to take them to the promised land. Right now, watching a full Leafs game is a waste of 3 hours and you might as well enjoy a good movie, then waste your time thinking this team will entertain you. Although I mostly disagree with much of what UG says, he’s right this time. It’s time to gut this seal and rework the roster. Maybe it is time to move Matthews, if a team with the assets is willing to give us a premium. Tank the rest of the way and see if we can get to the top 5 of the draft. Better to do it now, than stay in the bottom 10 and give up a high 1st rounder. It’s going to hurt, but it’s the only way to rebound quickly.

I concur. It’s time to sell. Looking at the standings, plus the injuries on this team, it looks like this season is toast. There’s good effort out there, but they just don’t have enough to get over the top. All of the early games were squandered, mostly at home. So many points lost in overtime and shootouts. The Leafs never really addressed a second line winger. Their best assets are all in goal right now and it’s time to move Stolarz. I’m not saying that Stolarz isn’t the 3rd string goaltender, it’s about his age and having him under contract for a few more years giving their trading partner cost certainty. Players like Carlo and McMann are great bargaining chips and should be looked at as assets for trades. The Leafs need to get younger and get some draft capital back. Tank now and get a top 5 pick is a must. The Leafs could rebound like Boston, if they stop procrastinating and make meaningful trades now. Time has pretty much run out and looking at their schedule, it’s gloomy. Too many West Coast trips and by the time they get back from the Olympic break, they’re basically dead in the water. Time to start the retool, not the burn it to the ground and start again foolishness.

If it’s a 1 for 1 and it’s Rielly going the other way, it might be doable. If course, Jersey needs to offset the cap situation and shave $2M AAV off the Hamilton contract.

Been a great 24 hours. Leafs win with a shutout, Bills win, Eagles out, If the Chargers find a way to win, then the Bills still could avoid the Broncos and play either the Steelers, or Texans. Mondays game against the Avs should be a barometer on where this Leafs team is. Leafs must get points in the next 3 games to look legit. Leafs should shop Stolarz to either get a first rounder or a 2nd line winger. The defense is fine how it is. A good mix on the back end, sans Rielly.

They played OK tonight. It’s obvious that they need more offense. Willy might have helped. Not sold om Maccelli. He’s allot like Domi, a turnover machine. Leafs need to address their need for a top 6 winger with a little more jam. The defense looks good with Tanev back. Time to get something done while they still have the ability to make a move into the playoffs. Too bad that Stolarz isn’t available. He would make excellent trade bait.

This is just the beginning of the wake for this season. Soon the corpse will start to rot and the vultures will circle. There needs to be a total tear down here. Use what grade A assets that you have to start a reset. Bring in some advisors like Gary Roberts, etc. Rebuild with total blood and guts players and get rid of the metrosexuals on the team. I watched about 20 minutes of tonight’s game and about the same last night. Football is all that’s left right now. It’s going to be a long winter of discontent.

I haven’t been going to either of the hockey sites, lately. I’ve also started not watching the Leafs. It’s my prerogative to just tune them out. This team didn’t have to go down this route. Biggest mistake is taking the “C” from Tavares and putting it on Matthews. He didn’t need the extra headache. Rielly hasn’t been great for 3 years now. How come they don’t address that elephant in the room? Burube? He wasn’t the coach that they really needed. Spencer Carbery was, but they let him go to Washington. Too many draft picks squandered, poor choices of assistant coaches and a Corporation that made more money than they were entitled to, with exorbitant ticket prices and you see where this stew began. Letting Sportsnet and their washed up broadcasts getting another 12 years of National coverage also hurt the product. TSN had a more hip broadcast and brought in the younger people. As a 68 year old fan, I’m starting to feel that I’ll never live long enough to see them win another Cup. What can they do to turn it around? A silent auction of Austin Matthews, then the domino’s of Rielly and Nylander being moved is the answer. Yes, it will hurt in the short term, but they’ll come back with younger, more hungrier players. Enough treading water, clean house and do a reset on the fly. For now, they’re in purgatory until they reset this sinking ship.

Once the Leafs goaltending situation gets back to healthy, they should be able to deal Stolarz for a 1st+. The Leafs need to get some draft capital back and trading Stolarz makes sense, knowing that Woll and Hildeby are solid, younger goaltenders. They should also look to acquire Dumba off of the waiver wire and move a defenseman later, once the D Core is back to full strength.
