Because why would teams jump on that contract? Mtl is the one desperate to get rid of it.
If all a team can get from this besides reaching the $$$ floor is a 3rd round pick there should not be any surprise there.
I mean, in theory, a team could decide to sign a god damn squirrel at 5M per year to reach the floor et voila! Thats easy!
Whats not that easy is a team willing to trade for Price’s contract. They could sign anybody in the world at any price to reach the floor.

he’s a strange old guy we employ. he drives to the DMV stations and banks all day and delivers our interoffice mail between buildings (we have multiple buildings on the street).
his hands shake so violently it isn’t safe to let him hold hot beverages, he shuffles around in a way that you can feel he’s in terrible health, he’s a hoarder, he collects toy trains with a track set up in his basement (where the bodies are), he paints, and he looks like tim curry (now).
one day when i was new here he walked up and asked if he’d ever told me he ate raw meat before. i said no.
a few hours later he came up and said he wanted me to know that he doesn’t eat raw meat anymore. ever since he got sick.
so there was a guy at my old job that i named repeater guy because he would tell you the same thing 3 times and then do it again the next day. so i named this guy meateater guy because it rhymed.
