On Sunday, the National Hockey League (NHL) revealed the six goalies voted into the Quarter Century Team. The team voted by fans chose Carey Price on the roster. Over 15 seasons with the Canadiens, Price won a franchise-record 361 games and ranked third with 49 shutouts. In 2015, he had a career year by winning Vezina, Hart, Ted Lindsay Award and Jennings Trophy. Martin Brodeur, Marc-Andre Fleury, Henrik Lundqvist, Robert Luongo, Patrick Roy round out the group of goaltenders on the Quarter Century Team roster.
Heineman Contributes in Win
The 2025 IIHF Hockey Championship kicked off in Sweden and Denmark on Friday. The tournament features top NHL players not taking part in the playoffs. For instance, Montreal Canadiens forward Emil Heineman, defenseman Mike Matheson, and prospect Vinzenz Rohrer are representing their respective countries.
Rohrer hit the ice first from the Canadiens representatives but did not record a point in Austria’s 2-1 loss versus Finland. The forward won 50 percent (5-for-10) faceoffs in 17:29 ice time.
Later in the day, Emil Heineman set up Mikael Backlund on a two-on-one for Sweden’s opening goal in the first period. Heineman finished the contest with plus-2 rating in 12:24 ice time as Sweden blanked Slovakia 5-0.
On Saturday, Mike Matheson took one shot on goal in 16:13 ice time in Canada’s 4-0 victory against Slovenia. In the afternoon, Heineman took no shots on goal and had -1 rating in 9:40 ice time, as Sweden defeated Austria 4-2. In the same game, Rohrer assisted on the opening goal when Benjamin Baumgartner banked in the rebound.
On Sunday, Matheson did not record any points in Canada’s lopsided 7-1 win against Latvia. In 18:01 of ice time, he took five shots on goal and finished with a plus-1 rating.
Rohrer and Heineman are in action on Monday, as Austria faces Slovakia and Sweden takes on Finland. Mike Matheson and his Canadian teammates hit the ice on Tuesday against France.
Fight Night
While three players are in Sweden and Denmark competing for their country, several Habs were at the Bell Centre on Saturday night. They didn’t lace up their skates to face an opponent, but rather to witness UFC 315. A video posted on social media by TVA Sports, Josh Anderson, Jakub Dobes, Jake Evans, Kaiden Guhle, Alex Newhook, and Jayden Struble were at the event.
