Hyman is Being Overlooked by Canada Again

Zach Hyman snubbed by Team Canada again. The Edmonton Oilers forward should be in Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point is unable to play for Team Canada due to injury. Team Canada has selected Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis as his replacement. This news came two days after Anthony Cirelli (Point’s teammate) got injured and was replaced by Sam Bennett from the Florida Panthers.

Jarvis played for Team Canada last season during the 4 Nations Face-Off. He registered one assist in three games. So far this season, Jarvis has 25 goals and 23 assists for 48 points in 48 games with the Hurricanes. The right-shot centre is on pace for 42 goals and 73 points. Both would be new career highs for the 24-year-old. That would surpass his career-high of 32 goals and 67 points registered in 2024-25.

Hyman Should be on Team Canada

I’m not saying Jarvis isn’t a good choice for Team Canada. His speed and ability to play up the middle will be needed. However, one has to wonder if Zach Hyman will ever get the call. After missing the Oilers’ first 19 games of the 2025-26 season, Hyman has 22 goals and 14 assists for 36 points in 39 games. He’s also a proven playoff performer, with 16 goals in 25 games during the 2024 postseason.

One could argue that Team Canada’s roster should include three players from Edmonton. Connor McDavid is the lone Edmonton Oiler representing Team Canada. However, Hyman and Evan Bouchard could be too. Both Leon Draisaitl and Josh Samanski from the Oilers will play for Team Germany.

Team Canada is in Group A, alongside Czechia, Switzerland, and France. Their tournament schedule is as follows: Czechia on February 12th, Switzerland on February 13th, and France on February 15th. The Men’s Ice Hockey tournament will begin on February 11th.
