Islanders AHL Affiliate Debuts In Hamilton 

The New York Islanders AHL affiliate, Hamilton Hammers, will have their first season under a new name in a new home beginning this season. The team will be playing its first season in Hamilton, Ontario at the TD Coliseum. Their home opener is Friday, October 9 against the Toronto Marlies.

The Bridgeport Islanders, originally the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have resided in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for 25 years. This move has been approved by the AHL board of governors, and the city of Hamilton is incredibly excited to bring hockey back to their city.

For the first time since the Islanders initially purchased the AHL team in 2004, their AHL affiliate team will be playing in Canada. When in Bridgeport, the team was approximately two hours from the Islanders’ home arena. 

To mark this new chapter in the franchise’s history, the team has rebranded. They will be called the Hamilton Hammers and will have a new logo. Their team colors will remain the same.
