Musings: Hometown Remix — Part 2

On Monday, the NHL and Fanatics finally released the Hometown Remix jerseys into the universe. One has to wonder why they waited so long, especially with all the leaks, including someone wearing a Capitals jersey at Sunday’s Capitals-Wild game. They could have easily announced them sooner.

In the past, with Reverse Retro, the jerseys would be announced well in advance to give everyone time to get ready for them before they hit the ice. This time, the release felt very deliberately delayed, and honestly, it was unnecessary.

As for the jerseys themselves, we had a mixed bag of designs bestowed upon us. There were some clear-cut winners with the Ducks, Capitals, Panthers, Blue Jackets, and Hurricanes, but then there were also some ugly designs with the Stars, Oilers, and Canucks. We also had some uninspired looks from the Devils, Blues, and Blackhawks, while teams like the Wild, Jets, and Penguins brought some unique designs to the table.

Whether teams looked back at their history (Canadiens, Bruins, and Maple Leafs) or brought back an old look (Islanders and Capitals), one way or another, the Hometown Remix jerseys certainly gave us a mixed bag of reactions.

Shoutouts

Sticking with Hometown Remix throughout this entire edition of Michael’s Musings, I want to take a moment to shout out both Brett Rocker of Brett’s Notes and my longtime friend Dickson Kendrick.

The three of us have been working non-stop the last several weeks on Hometown Remix for TXHT Hockey, and what we’re creating is absolutely amazing.

Major thanks to Brett for his hard work on creating the jersey icons that you see in the daily Jersey Tracking graphics we post, and to Dickson for his help on retrieving information so we can make sure the schedules for all of the teams are correct.

It’s a massive team effort, and I couldn’t do it without them.

You can read Michael’s Musings every Wednesday over at HockeyHotStove.com before it comes over to TXHTHockey.com on Fridays.
