Jets Tame the Predators, 4-1

After winning both games on their road trip, the Winnipeg Jets returned home and got a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday night at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg.

Connor Hellebuyck got the win for the Jets. Since giving up 5 goals to the Dallas Stars in the season opener, both Hellebuyck and Eric Comrie have not given up more than two during the Jets current four-game winning streak.

Scheifele milestone night

Mark Scheifele opened up the scoring for the Jets on the PP and in doing so, he passed his longtime line-mate and friend Blake Wheeler as the all-time franchise points leader. Great accomplishment for Scheifele. Meanwhile, he signed long-term so it’s safe to assume he will be sitting at the top of this mountain for many years to come. He now has six goals through five games to start the season. It’s early, but if he can stay healthy, he may have a shot at his first 50-goal season.

Stanzila

Logan Stanley scored his second goal of the season in the third period of the same game. That is a new career high for him through only fice games. He received a standing ovation from the crowd after he dropped the gloves with Predator forward Michael McCarron. With Dylan Samberg on injured reserve, Stanley has played more minutes on the Jets’ stout PK and thus far has done a good job.

Special Teams continue to impress

The Jets special teams had another stellar night. They went 2-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. The special teams are single-handedly carrying Winnipeg through this early stretch of the season while they await the return of several key players to their lineup.

Winnipeg’s 5-on-5 play has not been particularly great thus far. The Jets special teams were also among the best in the league last year and played a pivotal role in the team winning its first Presidents Trophy.

Toews helping out

Jonathan Toews picked up two assists on the night. He now has three points through his first five games as a Jet. Meanwhile, he is also over 60 percent in the face-off circle. He is still looking to score his first goal wearing a Jets sweater. However, he has hit a few posts.

Up next, the Jets will hit the road for just one game as they visit the struggling Calgary Flames on Monday night. The Flames have lost five games in a row after beating the Edmonton Oilers on opening night.
