The Seattle Kraken will be a fascinating team to watch once we get even closer to the 2026 NHL trade deadline. At the time of this writing, they have a 21-18-9 record and are sixth in the Pacific Division. Yet, the Kraken are also only two points behind the Anaheim Ducks for the third-place spot in the Pacific Division, so they certainly are among the several teams in the tight Western Conference playoff race.
With the Kraken still have a shot at making the playoffs, it would be understandable if they added to their roster ahead of the deadline. Now, based on a new report, they could be willing to move one of their most promising young forwards if it means landing an immediate upgrade.
According to The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, the Kraken are willing to include forward Shane Wright in a trade package to land a top-six forward that would help them right now.
“Another tidbit from today’s show: Sources have told me the Seattle Kraken are open to moving Shane Wright. They’ve been searching for a top-six forward and packaging Wright might get them that,” Pagnotta wrote.
Kraken’s Wright Could Generate Plenty Of Trade Interest
With Wright being a former top prospect center who is only 22 years old, he certainly has the potential to generate interest around the league. The potential for him to become a high-impact forward at the NHL level is still there, and it is fair to wonder if a change of scenery could be the boost he needs to hit that next level.
Wright has had mixed results so far this season with the Kraken, as he has recorded seven goals and 17 points in 48 games. Yet, this is after he set career highs with 19 goals, 25 assists, and 44 points in 79 games this past season with the Kraken. With this, he has already shown some offensive upside at the NHL level with Seattle, and that also could help his chances of generating interest from multiple teams.
There is no question that Wright possesses good trade value due to his young age and good potential. Yet, at the same time, the Kraken trading him would undoubtedly come with risk, as he very well could blossom into a true top-six forward in the future.
