The Toronto Maple Leafs have continued their offseason of change, as they announced on Sunday the departures of Assistant General Managers Brandon and Derek Clancey. According to their press release, Pridham and the club mutually agreed to part ways, while Clancey, who was brought in by former GM Brad Treliving, was let go.
“Brandon has played an integral role in the organization over the past 12 seasons,” Leafs GM John Chayka said in the press release. “We are sincerely appreciative of Brandon’s professionalism, commitment and dedication to the Maple Leafs throughout his tenure. Derek also brought valuable experience and insight to our hockey operations department during his time with the club. We thank both Brandon and Derek for their contributions to the organization and wish them and their families all the very best moving forward.”
It is unclear whether Clancey had time remaining on his contract, but according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Clancey has a history with new Vancouver GM Ryan Johnson, but does not know whether that means he could hook on with the Canucks. The club was interested in keeping Pridham in the fold with two years left on his contract, but his interview for the GM’s job did not go well. Friedman indicated that after 12 years in Toronto, it was time for a change.
Pridham was rumored to be someone that former Leafs GM Kyle Dubas wanted to bring with him to Pittsburgh, but that Brendan Shanahan wanted his to stay with Toronto. Now a managerial free agent, it is possible that he joins Dubas, Wes Clark, and Jason Spezza with the Penguins.
Prior to Pridham and Toronto going their separate ways, it was reported by Frank Seravalli that Chayka was intending on pursuing Chase Glasberg, the Utah Mammoth’s manager of salary cap and hockey strategy. Glasberg is the son of Neil Glasberg from PBI Sports, who was the firm that MLSE CEO Keith Pelley hired to do a search to replace Treliving.
